i just want at least 2GB of RAM in the new one and about a 150GB hard drive
oh, lol, you're looking for a laptop. my msitake. There are a million deals on here for laptops. work out what size screen you need, you could even go with a netbook if its just for uni.

I know your looking for a budget notebook, but some of the ones I've had lived up to the cheap and nasty tag, and probably end its life like the HP you got.
I've got a Brand Spanking New Dell Studio XPS 16 with 2.66GHZ, 6GB RAM, 500GB 7200 RPM, 1080p Full HD display, 64bit Vista and Integrated Digital tuner/antenna, integrated speaker with subwoofer and more delivered to me last Friday. It is surplus to our needs and is currently $2700 on the Dell website, apparently there is a 1 month wait on new orders.

Catch of the Day has a Samsung notebook with 3Gb RAM and 320Gb HDD for $699 delivered if paying by paypal. Has wireless-N, 1366x768 15.6" screen, 2GHz dual core.
Might wanna be quick though if that's what you want.

go on the kingston website and enter in your laptop details. It will tel you what ram you need, then staticice it.
