    Thanks monty.melb!

  • I wonder how many are in the packet. I bought 50 seeds on ebay, they germinated but they seem to have been eaten by snails and slugs…

Also received mine today (15th), nicely presented. Went to their website http://www.muttiparma.com.au which seemed to be down but was just incredibly slow to load. Note that they have a promotion "Win a free trip to Italy" - details on the site.

Basil and parley are so easy to grow, even in pots. Don't tell Mutti, but true OzBargainers will let a few go to seed and get ongoing free parsley. I had self-sown continental parsley for over eight years!

      Hi Mikeham,

I'm very new to planting growing herbs.. how does one "let a few go to seed and get ongoing free parsley"? I want in!

Many thanks for your gardening tips.

The answer is "Benign neglect"- just do nothing at all ! Left to their own devices, your herbs will produce flowers; the flowers will produce seeds; and the seeds will be wafted on the breeze to grow wherever they can.

Mr. Darwin's theory of natural selection will ensure that the fittest seeds survive to produce following generations, each hardier than the last.

You could also just gently shake the seed pods so that they fall in the same area near the parent plant (or save them in bags), but I like to see how far they can get under their own steam. How the parsley growing next to letter-box made it from the back yard and then over the house, I'll never know.

The easiest herb to grow is mint. Just snip off a few inches from a bunch bought from the supermarket and plant it anywhere.

Spring onions are also ludicrously simple. See http://www.buzzfeed.com/arielknutson/vegetables-that-magical… for more ideas.

I don't water my herbs, I don't use fertiliser - I do absolutely nothing at all and yet I can pick them fresh from my back door.

        Good luck!
