"Coupon code "redeem15" is not valid." I guess it's only working for order over $60

    • +3

      try following the deal instructions…..

EDIT: the free shipping makes this worthwhile - VIC & NSW OzBians might prefer http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=F7C027AU+&s…

      • Yeah,
I'm not in VIC so the that's why it's quite a good deal for me. I ordered 1.
Sounds like a cool gadget :)

      • Not when freight is from $15.95 !!

        $42.38 + $15.95 = $58.33

        • +1

I think he meant: if you are close to one of those stores in VIC, you can pick it up in store instead of buying from DSE.

    • +1

You need to add the cheap cable into the cart as well so it goes over $60
The redeem code won't kick in until the order is over $60

      • +4

Ahh, for the good olde days, when you could buy a 5c resistor :-)

        • That's the cheapest usable item I could find.
Everything else is just crap :(

  • +3

If u read the OP, it says u have to add the 2 items to cart.

  • I have one of these. Use it for the electric blanket but couldn't think of any other possible use. It's cool, yes, but think about how you'll use it before buying.

    • Turn on aircon before you get home? :D

        hardwired?

        • :| this is for plugged in electronics. You may want a NEST for hardwired stuffs.

        • @vsynca: can you get NEST in aus?? Thought it only was available in the states?

        • @Ambiguous: you can use a mail forwarder or US purchase service. You will need a licensed electrician to wire it though.

its that much for just one wemo? meh

    • Well, the usual price is $60 :|
I'm not in VIC or NSW or can't pick up at one of the store down there either.

  • I just bought a $20 chinese version from ebay.
There's plenty of different types on there.
Hopefully it won't burn my house down.

    • Can you post a link of the one you bought?

    • I was tempted but I didn't want to risk it :/

  • +1

I can't think of many real uses for such an item, since it costs a fair bit and it will drain power waiting for the on/off signal I wouldn't get one.

If I did ever need one , and I guess if it used less power, I'd prefer it to communicate over Ethernet,

    • +4

I prefer to communicate with my switches with my finger.

          Embrace my finger!
(sorry, you walked right into that one)

        • @muncan: Good one! Upvoted!

    • Woudn't that be a lot more expensive to install? Cabling + electrician + etc :/

      • EoP - Ethernet over Power straight to your modem/router. EoP is how I connect my downstairs TV, computer and consoles to my upstairs router.

        • You have pretty good wiring in the house then. Mine is ancient. Terrible speed for me.

    • Is it a good way to power up a PC / server / NAS?

Does anyone use it for this and can comment?

      • +2

Wake on LAN is easier for those things.
This one is for dumb electronics.

  • I wish it was android compatible. I would set the app to start my coffee machine in the morning so it would be ready to deliver me an expresso rather than wait for the darn thing to heat up. Of course if I am away, it would not turn the machine on. Better than a timer. Also, like a previous post you could turn the aircon on as you leave work.

I wish it was android compatible.

What do you mean: http://www.belkin.com/us/pressreleases/8799501026364/ ?

      • No I have no excuse not to buy one :) thanks. Looking at the reviews there are an awful lot of negative comments though. Do I? Don't I? Aaargh!

        • I think it depends on how much do you expect from a device like this. I personally think $47 is still over price. However, it's something new I want to play with :)
It's not as smart as a NEST so treat it as such.

  • I bought one from HN for $22 last week. They had one to get rid of.
Been interesting to use but struggling for a genuine use. Currently using it for a room lamp and annoying the kids. Only other thing I can think of is electric blankets so they can be turned on during your trip home.

Personally I'm amazed how simply they work over the mobile network.

I think they are bringing out another Wemo item that will allow you to switch low voltages.
