Office 365 still seems like terrible value to me :/

The subscription model seems really silly for such programs. Feels like restricted usage for something you paid for. Can't access stuff if you are behind tight firewalls (Univeristy down here for example doesn't like loading office365 very well), unstable net kind of sucks for always online systems as well.

Though that is a fair chunk of storage. 1TB of cloud storage O.o That is a lot of backing up.

    • $6.25 a month for all that is a pretty good deal. Probably means I can cancel my Crashplan for server backup (I'm backing up less than 1 TB) and use 2 of the accounts for Office 365 on mine & the wifes PCs. Added to the skype mins and the One Drive accounts we will each get, I can't see a better option around at the minute (at least for my personal situation which does not include tight firewalls, where I can benefit from both full local installs of the software and online / tablet versions / access to all documents).

      • Then it sounds like it suits you well, especially for $6.25 a month. I would say in your scenario, this does indeed sound like a bargain. Nice find. Good value for those in a similar situation.

$6.25 for 1TB of backups alone is pretty sweet as well. Assuming Microsoft has solid security in place.

  • I like Office 365

  • My work offers Office 365 for free as part of the home use program. Check with your work first.

    • Didn't think the HUP extended to Office 365 - thought it was still just 2013.

Do you have any more info on that?

  • Was considering Office 365, but I am currently getting by with the Google apps (Docs, Slides, Sheets).
Any reason to move to Office?

    • free google apps or google apps for business? Free versions had some limitations even for me as a uni student. Could barely put a report together, didn't support section breaks, fonts were stuffing up, table of contents not working well.

Sheets would just be barebones excel and misses a lot of functions and formulas.

      Haven't used slides.

  • Just bought a 1 year membership for $75 from officeworks (price matched against Dick Smith where you can buy it for $79 today).

  • $74 this weekend from DS (possibly less with O/W Pricematch) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163032#comment-2269918

  • Another bonus for those that use Skype and are interested in a Skype Number(or already have one) is that with an Office Subscription, you get 50% off other Skype features as by activating the 60 minutes you are viewed to have a skype subscription "World Minutes for Office 365".

You can choose a number in many countries (Australia, UK, US, ….) and when people ring that number, it will call you on Skype.

This brings down the cost of a Skype number from $80 to $40 per year.

    Now with UNLIMITED storage.

  • FYI for those pulling the trigger on this like me.

Just got my card today (Ordered from Dick Smith) and received this message:

"The Product Key entered has not been Activated. Without an Active Product Key you cannot retrieve your product. Product Keys can only be activated at the store where Office was purchased. Return to the store with your receipt of proof of purchase to activate your Product Key."

A bit of a pain but if you order a card online be prepared to have to go to a physical store to activate after it arrives.

    • Update, it appears others who ordered from Dick Smith did not have the same issue.
