      • thats what happens when workers are paid very little

Are the ones sold in Asia from the same factory as the ones sold here?

If so, surely Canada has labour laws? I hope the workers there are not as badly paid as those in the USA.

For those negging, try leaving Australia and seeing how cheap Ferrero Rocher are OS.

      • +4

They went through an interesting transistion. In the 90s they were quite expensive and considered almost a luxury item. Then in the 2000s they were I guess old fashioned and only cost about $4 when you rarely saw them.

        Now they're back!

But I loved them all along, they are fantastic.

        • +1

I love them too. They should always be this price! I reckon Lindt has smashed them though, a real competition for anything chocolty in a ball form.

In case information like this affects your purchases

This says Ferrero Rocher scores a 1 in ethical choices
(where 1 is not v good).

    Otherwise, munch away.

Though to be fair, they seem to be trying a little harder to do good than others.

So the better something tastes, the worse it is for your health, and the worse it is for the environment. If the all-foreknowing God exists, he's such a prick.

      • +4

What does God have to do with this? Making things taste good is easy, its butter, sugar, fat, cocoa, etc. And every great resource thats in high demand is exploited for profit and greed. If anything greed and exploiting people is the devil, not God.

Au contraire Hutt, who wouldn't prefer a freshly caught wild salmon fillet lightly smoked [in your Master's smoker https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/159500] to these mediocre choccies.

I thought Orang-utan could only be found in the forrest near a small town in Malaysia but palm oil plantation is in almost every state in the country? More like blaming mining in Aus causes near extinction of koala?
Btw big w has the 30 pack for $10

    • I love that I can still eat Lindt without guilt…

    • +1

Isn't it the same as the others Ferrero sold in Australia?

      • +1

Should be same, unless Wollies makes their own Ferroros.

    • +1

Most big W's are located in bogan areas though. Not worth the trip for many OzBargainers when you take into account other factors. Woolies on the other hand…

      • +1

Yep especially when I dun have a car to get to those areas lol

        • if you don't have a car, you are one of the bogans.

I used to work at Coles during my uni years.
Anyone who has worked in retail (grocery dept) knows about the dreaded weevils.
They get into everything unless you rotate the stock properly. (you may get them at home if you leave flour or pasta too long)

Anyway I once had a whole carton of Ferrero Rocher. (24-30 boxes of 16-24 sized items)
At the time they came clear wrapped in plastic, with each box clear wrapped, so you can clearly see inside the boxes.
Not sure how long these ones had sat around, but every single box each had at least a dozen weevil moths in them. There was no sign of "forced entry" (weevils will usually eat into and out of the pasta packets).
These were in clear plastic boxes, which are pretty sealed already (I doubt a weevil could get in), and then wrapped tight with a clear plastic (no signs of holes anywhere) and then wrapped again in similar plastic for the entire carton of them.

It was 100% clear to me that these weevils got in at the factory. So I can only imagine the cleanliness of it to have each and everyone of the 24-30 boxes of chocolates to have been infested with weevils.

    Happy snacking :-)

Now I understand why there was news about bugs and worms found in this chocolates.

Great, now I have been put off eating these.

      Gave u a + vote nevertheless

I wouldn't let it worry you too much.
After working 5 years at coles I am convinced most foods come with weevil eggs as standard.
That's why they have used by dates :-)

PS. Yes, lots of pastas I have seen with weevils inside the packaging and no visible signs of holes.
Check the used by dates on everything and visibly inspect your pasta before buying it. I have seen a packet of tube spaghetti that eaten it was like a bag of flour.

PPS, until I saw the Ferrero Rocher invested carton/package, I had only seen weevils in the pasta aisle.

PPPS, I still eat Ferrero Rocher chocolates :-)

        • Cheers for the advice

    • did the boxes with weevils still get sold?

for the right price( next to nothing), i will take a pallet of weevil-flavoured ferrero's.
