Hi,
I've been renting an apartment for about 18months now and the plastic range hood/extractor fan in the kitchen has broken on one side ( it's a pull out style one) from what I can only assume is age and constant heat changes.
It's cracked right at the weakest point where the screw hole is above the stove.
The apartment is about 10-15 years old. My question is, even though I didn't break it, is it my responsibility to fix it?

Landlords responsibility if due to wear and tear, yours if damaged due to negligence/mistreatment.
Look at this

Fair Wear and tear should not be Tennant responsibility. But always look at contract. Always be up front with landlord and or owner. But keep records some will try anything, some agents have been known to support neither landlord and owner.

Completely contract dependent. Check your rental agreement.
Those pull out things often crack. Plastic, crap quality etc. Landlord should replace it and with one with metal rather than plastic. I've had them fail as a tenant and as a landlord.
I have never rented before but I know people whose toilets broke, door knobs have fallen off, dishwashers broken. I don't see why those would be fixed for you but this wouldn't.
