  • I use reflector on my media pc. It works very well!

  • Why would you buy Reflector when Plex Media Server and XBMC are both free and do the same thing (ie. receive Airplay content)?

    • -1

Because I have an apple tv and want to stream to it from my PC?

      • Obviously your comment has nothing to with Reflector then…

Oh, no, it doesn't! Oh well :)

    • How do you set up Plex to receive Airplay content? I know my Plex ios client can send content to other AirPlay devices but receiving and displaying video is not possible through a client, as far as I know.

      • It's a setting in the preferences of Plex Home Theater. I think under 'Network', called something like 'Receive AirPlay content'. Similar with XBMC.

Actually, I haven't checked that the setting is in Plex Media Server as well (so my original comment might be wrong but it is in Plex).

        • Interesting! I'll check this out tonight as I also run Plex on this machine. I like that reflector just kicks in and takes over the screen automatically as soon as I AirPlay content to it from my iPad/iPhone/Macbook.

    • Plex HT can only receive AirPlay audio - Reflector allows you to send video as well.

EDIT: Sorry, Plex HT does support video, just not AirPlay Mirroring.

Bugger. I wish I'd known that 2 days ago before buying Reflector. BTW, I'm getting crappy lag sending videos to Reflector. I'm 3 meters from my high end n900 wifi modem. I might have flushed a tenner down the toilet with which I could have bought more Eneloops I don't need.

  • I wonder if this'll work with my amazon fire tv.

    • -1

Probably not - AirPlay is an Apple sharing method, so you'd need to send to an Apple end-product (eg. Apple TV).

  • You can airplay to amazon fire tv. So I can't see why it wouldn't work. Actually airplay seems to work better on amazon fire tv than it does on Apple TV. Go figure! lol
