How stingy is the Bally deal, 600 just to get less than 11%!? They need to just make them a set percent and cap the max credit 'refund'.

Telstra is a good deal at 30%! $20 back for $60 which most people already spend for Foxtel, phone, internet or mobile.

    Thanks OP.

Edit: damn the Telstra offer isn't on my card. WTF! Maybe due to saving the Optus deal and it expired on me before I could set up direct debit when I paid manually after switching it over to Amex.

Anyone else saved an offer and not used it to only get less offers next time? I got all the others but Telstra, Dinosaur Deals and Mr Vitamins! Never heard of DD or MV but they'd be online so it's not like WA residents couldn't use it, but many everyone used Telstra.

Maybe the allocation was snapped up already?

Edit 2: oh didn't read the 'only to new customers'. Is that new Telstra or Amex customers? Interesting that Amex would know if you're a customer or not, and what defines new? 3 months? 6 months?

    • I registered for the Telstra one last time (May 2014 ?) but didn't use it. Now it's available on my card again. I didn't have the Optus one. Not sure how Amex offer these :)

      • Interesting. A bit hit and miss.

  • Telstra isn't available for me either. I've got an "American Express Velocity Escape Card". But I think that the allocation has been taken up. Plenty of Telstra users out there.

    • Got the Qantas one. Possible it is 'sold out'. But this was within a few minutes of the deal being posted. I doubt it'd have sold out to 4000 that quick. I wrote to them and asked.

Chances are it's only for those that signed up to Amex or Telstra in last few weeks or months.

Telstra thing work for my monthly internet and land line bill?

    • If you setup direct debit using your amex it will count
      Check This Out

I got Telstra prepaid, can I direct debit $60 once then get the $20 redeemed then cancel it. Would that work??

      • Can u direct debit prepaid? I should think not, but seriously, if you use prepay on telstra, you can afford too forget about savings..
At the rates you pay for prepaid telstra, you could buy a new car every year if you stopped paying them

    $50 or $25 ???

    "APPLIANCES ONLINE

    • Says the same thing on their website. If you call up Amex and request a $50 credit, I wouldn't see why they can't give it to you.

Not even one offer is showing in my non bank issued AMEX this month!

    • Same, nothing on my Qantas Discovery AMEX.

      • Ditto :( but the strange thing is I am not getting any deals since last two months. It just shows "There are currently no new offers available for this Card." Hmm time to give them a call.

  • everything in my BMW amex card :p

  • I got about half the offers on my Qantas Discovery. Though none there to tempt me into spending over $100 on products I don't need.

Any valid Hotel Club coupons available at the moment?

    • +1

Seems like Rewards Central is the only one paying rewards/cashback on Hotel Club any more, at 2 points per dollar… http://rewardscentral.com.au/Earn/ShoppingOffer.aspx?urlid=1…

    • try HAPPY10

      worked for me last night

      • :( doesn't seem to work now - "We're sorry the promotion code has expired"

would love a hotelclub coupon if anyone has one. Spent the last half an hour googling with no luck.

        • +1

          DBSBANK11 for 11% off

I used it the other night and it worked fine

When I log into Amex, it says I don't have any offers I can subscribe to… too late for this one anyway since I've already booked :(

        • @griftr:
+1 for me. It is meant to be expired but worked!

    • +1

Qwibble has 9.6%, but it excludes Hotel Club members because "hotelclub will not pay cashback if you are already a hotel club member. they believe you already get it through their rewards programme."

      • Can I pay by amex through qwibble? Or does it just direct/refer me to hotelclub and it's booked as if I went through the merchant themselves?

        • I am guessing that it is like the other cashback sites, you are redirected to hotelclub and you proceed like normal, but qwibble will have cookies tracking the transaction. I saw somewhere that you should not open any other websites during the process otherwise it may interfere with that tracking. Just my guess!

        • try ebates.com 7% cash back. very reliable.

    • recognised my booking on partner site ratestogo using Getaway20 or Great15 from this deal
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158732

      • +1

are you saying you'll still get the Amex credit if booking thru ratestogo??

        • +2

recieved an email from amex saying i have completed qualifying transactions for $50 credit back when i booked through ratestogo. credit has not hit my account yet so cannot confirm.

        • ratestogo has free cancellation, so worth a shot

        • @RSFeshop: Can you please confirm if you have received the credit yet for the rates to go booking?

          Thanks so much.

    • 15% off Hurry15 expires in a few hours 11:59pm (US Pacific Time) 22 Sept 2014
      10% off HURRY10 expires 11:59pm (US Pacific Time) on 5 October 2014
      Eligible on participating hotels only

    • Sorry bit late but I always just google on the day (eg retailmenot) I'm booking and try to find one. Usually you'll find at least 5% off or more. I booked using Hotelclub the other day and got 11% off.

  • The short date on the Telstra one sucks. I just finished a billing cycle, which will be billed on the 11th, and the next one won't be until October. Not sure if I make a manual payment, whether it will still count as Direct Debit.

    • -1

new customers only so no stress anyway

      • +1

Not really. The specific T&Cs state:

"Offer is limited to new or existing Telstra customers who set up direct debit payments for the first time with registered American Express card for the first time."

So if you didn't already have DD before then you'd still qualify.

But yeah, that means I don't qualify, since I already got the previous Telstra Amex statement credit. Not sure how they'd actually police this one though.

    • In case u got amex ( both with this offer saved) and one already set up for auto direct debit, other not.

      then,
u can try setting up fixed direct debit ( diff to automatic direct debit) and pay monthly amount over 60AUD ( or pay in advance using this option). Dont cancel ur automatic direct debit.

  • Nice, good thing I forgot to pay my Telstra account, this post reminded me to pay the bill and saved me $20!

    • -1

new customers only… how did you manage the $20 save ?

      • I saved the offer to my card. Maybe they won't credit it to my card after the direct debit, only time will tell…

        • Hope it works for you considering there will be a $15 late payment fee plus an entry on your credit history.

        • @IanC:

My bill isn't due until 20 September, but thanks for your concern. I generally pay on the first day my bill is issued, I "forgot" to pay last week.

And in any event, they generally don't put it on your credit history just because you missed one bill, but not that I have ever missed a bill.

  • You legend, thanks so much, saved me $50 on a Hotel booking I held off making yesterday because I got distracted entering OzBargain competitions…

Now to see if there's a valid hotelclub coupon, because it wouldn't be very ozbargain to book without at least trying…

    • How about trying 12% rebate & $5 sign up bonus with http://www.coupay.com/ I have no knowledge of it's reliability, but someone needs to 'Take one for the OZB Team' hehe !

      • Wow, that website literally has zero online presence in terms of reviews. I can't find a single one that confirms it's legit.
Might just go qwibble or cashrewards, both have 9.6% cashback :)

  • I have to be the unluckiest person around
    :(

(and yes, it has to be that hotel for those days!!)

    • Can you add breakfast or something for one day?

      • nup, no options to select (that have a dollar amount I can pre-pay) - would have added a cot or rollaway bed if allowed!

hoping that exchange rate worsens slightly overnight!

    • Noooooo! First time an Amex surcharge would have come in handy.

How about ordering an extra bed/cot as a special request! I saw that for my hotel on Special requests. Easy to miss but there's a little + sign to view the requests…

    • you got a huge discount on that tho :)

      • +1

can never have too much discount !!

    • Try a better room, or add 1 guest, or add airport pick up??

    • Can you change it so it bills you in a foreign currency? Then the conversion fee will probably tip you over the $200 mark :)

  • +1

Don't forget that Mr. Vitamins has 21% off the RRP (note: not their displayed price) on the first Tuesday of every month, so you can combine these two offers. But be careful that the reduced price doesn't take your total below $100 which would cause you to miss the AMEX credit.

    http://mrvitaminsnews.com.au/mr-vitamins-promotions/super-tu…

  • i tried registering my ANZ issued AMEX, i guess it only works for AMEX issued cards (as OP mentioned). Anyone got any luck perhaps from calling the support desk?

  • +1

A possible trap for people regarding a "Direct Debit".
Simply paying your account by transfer or otherwise is NOT a direct debit.
A direct debit is where a party (telstra) is given authority to withdraw money from your account, usually on a regular fixed date.
The telstra deal applies only to NEW direct debits being set up.

    • Yes, that's what I did with last month's Optus $20 for $60 spend deal. I mentioned it to them when I asked how the Telstra allocation is made. They're clever for loyalty and customer service to credit it to me despite my mistake. Guess it happens often.

I'm guessing AmEx knows who is a Tesltra customer somehow and whether they have ever or currently have a DD set up. I do for a MasterCard, so guess that rules me out. Well technically the bill isn't in my name but I pay it ;-p Big Data must be really working well now. Unless Telstra share the data with AmEx upon request.

  • Just booked hotelclub via cashrewards for 9.6% cashback plus the $50 amex refund. Hopefully makes a $289 booking about $210…

Does anyone know if AdBlock Plus on chrome would mess with the cashrewards tracking? I realised too late that I had it enabled and don't want it to have stuffed it up!

  • Does anyone know if the HotelClub $50 cash back applies to more than one transaction? In the terms and conditions it states $200 or more in 1 or 'more' transactions. So does that mean I can spend $100 one day and $100 the next on 2 separate hotels and still get the $50 cash back?

    • +1

Sounds like it'd be both. Once your amex card hits >$200 in total of spending it'll send you that sweet sweet $50 credit email.

      • That's what I thought, let's hope it is the case! :)

        • +1

Thought I'd just update you and let you know that you can split it over several transactions. I made two separate transactions with Hotel Club and got the email after I had spent $200 in total saying I was eligible for the $50 cash back.

  • +1

Just got a reply and they said they would as a courtesy credit me $20 for the expired Optus deal. So that was nice.

How they said the Telstra offer expired months ago (obviously they're mistaking a previous deal and not this new current one) and it's for those that set up a direct debit for the first time with telstra.

  • Just got an email from Amex advising success the $20 credit. I had a direct debit previously with a different card, just for anyone wondering.
