  • I got one from Aldi months ago.
They are good. And easy to build.
I have it on my porch.
Not rained on but out in the wind and cold.

(From Old Post) Keter has a factory in the illegal industrial settlement of Barkan, in the occupied West Bank. Here, as in settlement industrial zones across the region, some of the most harmful and polluting Israeli industries take place, exploiting the captive Palestinian workforce.

As well as being built on stolen land, the environmental effects of these industrial zones has a devastating impact on Palestinian communities. The Barkan settlement dumps industrial waste and sewage into the Al Matwi Valley – contaminating a vital water source for local Palestinian villages.

Thanks Jackson!!! These facts matter to me when making my choices about what to purchase and what not to purchase.

      • It really should matter to everyone and anyone. It sure matters more than saving a buck, when I know every time I look at one I'm going to think about all those poor children. No one should want that on their conscience, but it seems some people don't care.

    • This is just a cut and paste of anti-Jewish propaganda and should not be allowed here

      Look at the words

      illegal
      harmful
      polluting
      exploiting
      captive
      stolen
      devastating
      dumps
      contaminating

      • -1

Listing the words doesn't mean anything on it's own, they are descriptive of the actions of the Israeli government and what they are doing. However if you have a legitimate reason to complain about it, you should do some research and provide reference examples about this factory so people can make up their own minds.

Also I am not anti Jewish, however I do believe it's important to know that my hard earned isn't supporting a violent regime that indiscriminately wages war on a largely civillian population. It wouldn't matter who it was, but in this case it's Israel.

        • +1

What about Hamas that fires thousands of rockets aimed at civilians in Israel?

That "largely civillian population" you worry about completely supports Hamas and it's completely unacceptable terrorism. Hamas murders and kills people by the thousand quite openly.

Seems you worry about just one side in this debate.

          @SamR:
          why bother responding?
I dont think this is the sort of forum where you will succeed in defending your cause.
I am not disagreeing with you in principle - just saying - this sort of forum, where people make comments, often dont come back to them, sometimes make silly comments, troll etc - well I just dont think much will come of your efforts.

Actually I worry about people dying, especially being killed by a far superior army with all the power. I was brought up to believe that if you had the power and strength in a situation then you had a responsibilty to make sure that things were fair. In this case we have a military power conducting what can only be seen as collective punishment on a people. If you want to go after Hamas, or someone who's done wrong, no one is fussed about that, but it's not a proportionate response to blow up entire aparment blocks and sending hundreds of thousands of people homeless because there were people in the general vicinity that were firing bottle rockets with no warheads that hardly hurt anyone. Whether that is due to iron dome or not is neither here nor there. The rockets are hardly aimed, they are not aimed at people like missles from f18s that find there way into people's lounge rooms.

I know Hamas murders people, they just made a public display of it. They are not innocent. That doesn't mean that everyone in the West Bank has to pay the price. I wouldn't want to see one Israeli die, but I also think watching 2000 Paestinians die is dreadful.

Fair enough, but if you truly believe and live by your values, I also suggest that you would:

      • Not use any USB memory device, as these were actually invented in Israel
      • Stop using Intel based CPUs, as the architecture was developed in Israel
      • Choose a different document and spreadsheet editor than MS Office, as some of the design technologies of these tools were researched in Israel
      • Don't use any instant messaging software, as the idea was first concepted in Israel

This just some of the tech stuff, but there are a lot more in medicine and other biotech areas. Don't limit your self just to Keter, be honest and stick to your principals!

      • -1

You are almost on the right track, because you aren't far from what I do, however:

-I don't think anyone in Israel is profiting from my USB drive, USB is a standard
-I avoid Intel CPUs as much as possible (primarily due to their own practices), been endorsing AMD since the K6, more and more using ARM
-I use Openoffice, and yes on Linux
-No Israeli settlement are benfiting from any of my using instant messaging (which is the point, I'm not even sure that's true).

Which is the point that people keep missing, this isn't about anything except not wanting to contribute to a war/civillian death and hardship. Its got nothing to do with anything else. People love to try to make it about Jews or Israel in general, but it's just about not having my dollar go to killing. If there was peace there, I'd be lining up for their products as much as anyone. Some of my favorite people are Jewish, whether by birth only or just by belief.

I feel like I just read something out of Green Left Weekly…keep it on topic or don't post at all, political ideologies definitely included.

    • This is utterly off topic. It is an individual's responsibility to research how their purchase may/can the world outside their own space. If most are too lazy or are too ignorant to do this research, then so be it. The comments section of OzBargain, does not exist so one can to pedal their own social/political ideology.

OzBargain is for bargains, save these sort of comments for the ABC's 'The Drum' forum.

      • +1

I disagree totally, you can't expect a person to know everything about every product put in front of them, the comments are there to discuss the product, and these comments pertain to where the product is made and at what environmental and social cost. When provided with information people will use that to make a decision. If you applied what you are saying to any other aspect of the product the comments would be empty

Either way if you you disagree you are free to respond, or just read on and pay no mind, at least the people that care will have the information, I see some have already displayed thanks for

        • All you needed to post was this;

"Keter has factory in the occupied West Bank".

          People are then free to go on and research from there. Unfortunately your posts continue, all full of off topic, highly prejudicial/biased, and emotive rhetoric. Worst still, you later posted this completely off topic banality;

"Actually I worry about people dying, especially being killed by a far superior army with all the power. The rockets are hardly aimed, they are not aimed at people like missles from f18s that find there way into people's lounge rooms."

How did that post relate to the product, Jackson? How are F18s and the Israeli Armed Forces directly related to this product? How is the way you were raised, related to this product?

Understand that it is not that is disagree your your stance on the matter, Jackson. It's just that this is not the correct the forum/platform for you to get on your soap box.

Again, OzBargain exists for posting bargains, it does not exist so one can to pedal their own social/political ideology.

  • Good price. But is it Keter branded?

    • +3

      Ahhh!
Previous times they sold these they were…
      (http://www.discountstoresau.com/aldi-catalogue/special-buys-…)

This looks exactly the same as the Keter ones they were selling.

BUT now they are called EasyHome. :)

I think perhaps people complaining about Keter, have forced them to pick a new name?

      • Wow even cheaper last time.

      • -1

Good reason to complain, see above comment. Sodastream announced the other day they are moving plant and equipment out of their factory in the occupied territory and back to their other factory. BDS in Europe is starting to affect companies and it's making a difference.

  • Awesome, I'll buy 2 if I can.

Didn't Aldi just ban Roald Dahl books over some petty little word?

Surely they should not be stocking these kinds of products if the above is true.

They will be getting an email from me.

    • -1

Great way to demonstrate a lack of maturity & intellect - send a ranting email based on what you heard, not what you know. You might want to consider the raft of other products you & everyone you know owns & uses that are produced from less than ideal situations…clothes, consumer electronics, anything bought from cheap Chinese websites. What's that they say about stones & glass houses?

“I am frequently asked if I have visited Israel, whereas yet, it is simply assumed that I have. Well, I don’t travel. I really don’t, and if I did, I probably wouldn’t visit Israel. I remember how it was in 1948 when Israel was being established and all my Jewish friends were ecstatic, I was not. I said: what are we doing? We are establishing ourselves in a ghetto, in a small corner of a vast Muslim sea. The Muslims will never forget nor forgive, and Israel, as long as it exists, will be embattled. I was laughed at, but I was right. I can’t help but feel that the Jews didn’t really have the right to appropriate a territory only because 2000 years ago, people they consider their ancestors, were living there. History moves on and you can’t really turn it back."

Needless to say, as an atheist I am sure he didn't think much of the religious claim to the land there either.

        • @Jackson:

My quoting of Asimov had nothing to do with your posts Jackson, so I have no I idea why you would response. Have I disagreed with your opinion Jackson, or have I merely taken exception to your use of emotive rhetoric and your improper use of OzBargain? I have my own issues with the Israeli Government, however it is inappropriate for me to post them on this forum.

However, if you think that it isn't ignorant for one to read the posted comments of another, then using said comments for the basis of issuing a complaint to a 3rd party, then I guess that that Asimov quote is applicable to you after all.

        • -2

@Suit: actually since the initial post I the thread that you were responding to references my post, it has lots to do with it. In fact it sounds to me now like you are saying that @vivianne is making a decision based on no knowledge, of which my post is referenced, however it's unclear to me if you are posting in reference to @vivianne herself or people who might read her post, either way, if they read the initial post then they could use that as a starting point for research.

I actually like and agree with the quote, hence the upvote, and if you weren't interested in airing your said issues on the forum, I would be interested in hearing them directly should you want to PM me.

      • +1

Now, please play nice. No need for personal attack.
I do try to consider where things come from, whether it's a chook's bum or a human abuse factory. Of course one cannot "know" most things, we go by what we hear and read, always.
And I couldn't buy one of those items believing that they came from a terrible situation.
I appreciate the poster who provided the background information about that product.
        Have a great day.

The fact that you call the situation in Palestine 'less than ideal shows either a lsck of knowledge or empathy only. The situation there is horrendous and needs to stop, and like South Africa this is a perfectly valid response from a consumer and should be respected, not ridiculed, even if you disagree
