Looking get a new pair of dress shoes, are there any recommendations in the sub-$150 category?

Sub $150? Yes, pretty much every shoe at most major retailers.
There are plenty, but none seem to last. I've had my share of hush puppies, julius marlow, windsor smith over the years, the longest any of them have lasted is 1 year, and that's with me rotating every few days.
I have a pair of RM Williams boots, very comfortable, and still in great condition after 3 years. Unfortunately they don't make dress shoes.
That's a good point none of them really seem to last much longer than a year. But i guess they've gotten cheap enough that when they are on sale you can pick them up for around $50. Florsheim seem to last the longest for me personally, but then again they cost twice/three times as much anyways. It's better to check them out in store as Florsheim make some el cheapo feeling ones, and some which seem heavier and of a much better build quality.

op, you do mean black leather shoes for suits and not for a dress (lady wear)? if yes, then florsheim, julius marlow around $150 would be the way go. if no, then forget i said anything.
I usually get Rockports or even Ecco on Amazon.
They look good, last well and I only buy them when there's a good price.
Hush puppies, comfy as hell yet still dress shoes. I got mine one sale from myer the other day for $100 but I think they're $140 regularly.
