26/10 Super Smash bros Wii U Update
Eight-Player Mode: In a first for the series, a special mode lets eight players fight simultaneously in local multiplayer. This option appears only in the Wii U version, and lets players compete on special, larger stages to accommodate all the characters.**

amiibo Figures: Once a player touches an amiibo figure to the NFC touchpoint on the Wii U GamePad, the character joins as a “Figure Player”. The amiibo figures can gain levels to become stronger as they gain experience through battling and are fed equipment by the player. Players can also have amiibo fight each other, and amiibo will bring you presents from the battles they fight in.

Online Multiplayer: This time it’s possible to team up locally with a friend to compete “With Anyone” online, amongst other options. In the future, players will be able to set up customised Tourneys and there will also be Official Tourneys. Voice Chat with Friends through the GamePad before and after battle, on the Fighter Selection and Results screens.

Custom Stage Creation: The touch screen of the Wii U GamePad makes it easier than ever for players to build their own stages and, after a future update, share them with friends and other players around the world.

Controls: The Wii U version features more controller options than any other game in the series, such as the Nintendo GameCube Controller through the GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, amongst others. In addition, players who own the Nintendo 3DS version of the game can use their Nintendo 3DS or 2DS systems to control the action on the TV screen in Smash Mode on the Wii U version.

Importing Fighters: Fans of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game can immediately benefit from the fruits of their smashing labours. Players can import custom Nintendo 3DS fighters (including Mii Fighters) to the Wii U game, along with their customised equipment, costumes and hats.

Special Soundtrack Offer: Everyone who registers both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. on Club Nintendo during the promotional period will receive a two-disc soundtrack of music from the games*.

Mewtwo: This veteran fighter will be made available as free downloadable content in Autumn 2015 for anyone who registers both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game with Club Nintendo during the promotional period*.

Modes: The Wii U version of the game offers many new modes and different ways to play that keep players coming back for more, including: •Smash Tour: A fighting party game that looks like a board game. Players use items, spin a wheel and advance around the map. Up to four players can compete at once as they navigate the board and gain fighters and power-ups they can use in a final battle.Special Orders: In Master Orders, the more difficult the order from Master Hand you undertake, the higher your reward – but you only get to try once. In Crazy Orders, you pay to enter and battles get harder the longer you survive. Will you know when to stop and reap your rewards?

Special Smash Mode: Players can customise battles and play any way they like.Coin Battles: Players compete to collect coins from other players.Stamina Matches: Players fight until their hit points reach zero.Classic Mode: One or two players fight through a series of battles and advance as long as they survive. Many random events can shake things up, and players can adjust the intensity settings. The more difficult the game, the greater the rewards.

All-Star Mode: Unlike in the Nintendo 3DS version, opponents appear in reverse chronological order, and two players can battle through this mode together.

Event Mode: One or two players take on set character and theme-based battles. Clearing stages helps players see the way forward.

Masterpieces: This menu gives players a peek into the past lives of some of the Super Smash Bros. characters. Players can play cut-down versions of selected characters’ greatest games.

Stages: The Wii U game offers more stages, with more variety, than any game in the series. There is now an expanded version of the original Battlefield stage named Big Battlefield. The Great Cave Offensive, based on the underground labyrinth found in Kirby Super Star, challenges players to avoid potentially lethal danger zones – or throw their opponents into them. The Jungle Hijinxs stage, based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, features dual-plane battles with a foreground and background, and blast barrels that shoot players from front to back and vice versa. After launch, a new Miiverse stage will feature players’ posts from Miiverse, where posts will appear in-game to cheer on the fighters.

My Music: The game includes hundreds of songs and jingles that players can listen to, as well as settings to customise what music plays during gameplay. Players add songs to their library by collecting CDs that appear while smashing or after completing challenges.

Movies: When players clear Classic or All-Star Mode, they’ll be treated to a brief movie featuring whichever fighter they used. Every fighter has a movie, so it’ll be a challenge to view them all. Additionally, HD versions of the new fighter introduction videos are available to watch.

Ridley: Fans have been clamouring for Ridley to appear in a Super Smash Bros. game for a while and now they’re getting their wish - but true to form, Ridley appears in an unexpected way. Players will find him in the Metroid series-inspired Pyrosphere stage, but he does more than just hassle players. If one player attacks Ridley enough, Ridley will join that fighter’s side and attack others. Players (including the one on Ridley’s side) can KO Ridley to earn the point for match results. If Ridley consumes the energy to the side of the ledges, he will become Meta Ridley - and all the more vicious!

Characters: The Wii U version offers players 40 characters plus Mii Fighters from the start. Each character’s moves match those found in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, so players who hone their skills in the portable game will have an edge over opponents in the console version of the game.

Major Series: Nintendo has four games from two of the most well-known series launching this year:

Super Smash Bros.: The Wii U game and the first portable game in the series are getting ready for their debuts. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launches on 4th October, with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U following summer 2014. As another offering for fans, those who register both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the games in Club Nintendo – before a set time - can claim the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS & Wii U: Premium Sound Selection, a free soundtrack CD* packed with tunes taken from and inspired by the games. Further details on the timings pertaining to this offering will follow at a later date. Also in a separate announcement, Nintendo revealed that Shulk from the Xenoblade Chronicles series will be a playable character in both games.

Pokémon: Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for Nintendo 3DS hit stores and Nintendo eShop on 21st November, and are a complete re-imagining of Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version, games which Pokémon fans first enjoyed when they launched in 2003 for Game Boy Advance. Now, players will catch, battle and trade Pokémon as they seek answers to the mystery behind Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre and their possible connection to Mega Evolutions. With new challenges to overcome and incredibly powerful Pokémon to encounter, these games are a true evolution in the Pokémon series.

Interactive amiibo Figures: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which launches summer 2014, will be the first game with full integration of amiibo. Other games that will support amiibo include Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World, with more to come. More details on amiibo functionality and an official launch date will be revealed shortly.

Bayonetta 2: The witch is back in October in the game that features over-the-top battles with wild weapons in gorgeous locations, with a new story that takes Bayonetta on a journey to inferno to save her friend’s soul. The original Bayonetta game is also available as a standalone on Nintendo eShop, or in a bundle with the retail packaged version of Bayonetta 2. Remade for Wii U, Bayonetta comes complete with some Nintendo cosplay options for the powerful heroine.

Hyrule Warriors Add-on Content: This mashup of Dynasty Warriors and The Legend of Zelda series already includes a large amount of content. Nintendo plans to support the game for the long run with more content to help players expand their adventures even further. That program kicks off when the game launches on 20th September with a free download that adds a fun new mode, weapon and the option to select music.

Ultimate NES Remix: Available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on 8th November, the game features rapid-fire challenges and mash-ups from a selection of 16 of Nintendo’s finest 8-bit games. Regional online leaderboards will let players see how they stack up against others in their area, and Championship Mode offers a gauntlet of challenges from three different games.

Fantasy Life Add-on Content: Available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on 27th September, Fantasy Life lets players become the masters of their destinies as every choice they make determines their unique Fantasy Life. Players can easily change their Life Class at any time and experience how each offers a new perspective on the world. Local and online multiplayer options let friends share the adventure, the exploration and the bounty. An add-on content pack called Origin Island – available from launch - will extend the Fantasy Life adventure even further. Origin Island offers a whole new area home to an ancient culture and powerful enemies, additional story content, new ranks to achieve in Life Classes, access to even more powerful equipment and two new varieties of pets to adopt: birds and dragons.

New Themes for Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu: Following a system update planned in October, Nintendo will be introducing new HOME Menu themes that allow Nintendo 3DS and 2DS owners to personalise their systems by changing the menu background, icons and folders, and music and sound effects. Themes will be available for purchase from a Theme Shop that will be added to the HOME Menu. Stay tuned for more details coming in the future.

Indie Games: A number of great downloadable games, many of which are exclusive to Nintendo eShop, are on their way this year:

Curve Digital’s Stealth Inc 2 combines the best elements of puzzle solving, action platforming and stealth gameplay into a game that’s all about hiding in the shadows. The game launches exclusively on Wii U in Q4. The game includes a two-player co-op mode, level editor, off-TV play and Miiverse integration.

Swords & Soldiers II is a side scrolling action strategy game from Ronimo Games launching in Q4 2014 exclusively on Wii U. The game includes 20 story missions and lets players buy units, cast spells and build structures to overwhelm enemies on a 2D battleground.

Azure Striker GUNVOLT from Inti Creates launches this summer exclusively on Nintendo 3DS. Featuring the talents of Keiji Inafune, the creator of the Mega Man series, the game takes the best aspects of Japanese 16-bit classics and updates them with new play mechanics and slick graphics. For a limited time, the game comes with a free digital copy of the 8-bit nostalgia-fuelled Mighty GUNVOLT as well.

Also releasing in 2014 is the critically-acclaimed Shovel Knight from Yacht Club Games, coming to Nintendo eShop for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U & Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS: Both launching on 29th November. Both games introduce a unique and epic adventure as Sonic and team work together to stop the evil villain Lyric. Players can play as multiple characters, each with their own abilities, as they explore, fight and speed through an undiscovered land.

Looking Ahead: Nintendo has an array of great games on the way for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. In 2015, Wii U will see the arrival of a new instalment in The Legend of Zelda series, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Devil’s Third, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Yoshi’s Woolly World, Kirby(working title), Star Fox (working title), Mario Maker (working title), Project Giant Robot, Project Guard, Mario vs. Donkey Kong (working title),Mario Party 10, and Art Academy (working title). On the portable side, in 2015 Nintendo 3DS will see the launch of a new NFC reader/writer that will interact with amiibo figures, as well as the arrival of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., and Fossil Fighters: Frontier.

Looking Ahead: Nintendo has an array of great games on the way

too late imo. they missed the nolstagia bandwagon

  • Nice summary, thanks for sharing that. Just wondering was the Direct given ENG subs? Only had Japanese subs last time I tried to watch.

    • I'm sure an American direct will come soon about the new consoles.

  • Some decent stuff there and if Nintendo getting with the times means that they also have to micro transaction everything then I guess we will have to deal with that. I just want them to progress with their digital policy.

    • Same

    • Day 1 DLC out the wazoo
      Amiibos

So, since E3, we've discovered two things

      1) Nintendo wants to be EA
      2) Nintendo wants to be Activision

      GG guys, regroup next week.

      • No Nintendo have always been better than other companies with providing backwards compatibility with games and remotes. With the recent DLC releases they have been made and priced for what DLC's are supposed to be, Extra game content at a reasonable price that wasn't available at launch for whatever reason. Also they're extremely well priced unlike for example Activision's overpriced Call of Duty map packs.

        • So they should be better, they change their consoles more often than all the rest.

        • Re: Backwards Compatibility
They're only "better" for the handhelds - all versions of them were compatible with the previous major iteration.

When it comes to consoles, they only follow the trend if they implement it.
          *SNES - no NES
          *N64 - no SNES
          *GC - no N64 (PS2 has b/c)
          *Wii - can play GC (360 & PS3 have b/c via emulation(?))
          *Wii U - can play Wii (Xbone & PS4 don't have b/c)

Backwards Compatibility is a double-edged sword anyway. You possibly get better customer satisfaction & upsales from existing owners (as they have a compatible library of games already), but you're also usually restricting the physical hardware of the new console (eg. specs or processing) so that older games will still work.

@Linkwick: I know my Wii-U has been getting a thrashing of old Wii games recently, Harvest Moon, Punch Out and Rhythm Heaven to name a few. Plus you can use the screen on the gamepad! I am, as I always have been, absolutely excited about the gamepad's screen, as someone who shares a TV, I have wanted this feature in gaming for 23 years.

  • That soundtrack makes it tempting to get both Smash Bros. games, but I never game on the go and I can't justify purchasing the same game twice (apart from one or two game modes and the stages which I don't care about). Y u do dis?!

  • +1

Watch dogs Wii U will be Launched 21st November

    • +1

Same as Super Smash Brothers? Wow Ubisoft. Tough choice, huh?

Except it isn't. 1 copy of Smash please :3

  • +1

Super smash bros will have 8 player battles!!

    • and mewtwo DLC!! woohoo (or free if you have both platform copies muahaha)

      • Wonder how much it is to just buy Mewtwo by himself.

  • All updated info on smash now in post :)

  • +1

tempted to sell my wii u now, mh4 being 3DS only is pretty much the main reason i just dont care anymore.

    • +1

Lol that's the most ridiculous excuse to sll a Wii U, and since the lineup over the next yr is awesome now is the best time to buy, we got Bayonetta, smash, Zelda, watchdogs, Project cars Sonic and bulk more. The Wii U will should do well over the next year.

      • Smash and MK8 were the reasons for me. Everything else is just a bonus ^-^

      • +1

Not everyone likes Smash Bros. I'm passing on it and Bayonetta (not a big fan of Bayonetta, played the first years ago on 360). I'll be buying Project Cars on PS4 and I've already played Watchdogs months ago. I bought WiiU for MH also and if it wasn't for the kids liking Just Dance and myself likely wanting the new proper Zelda game when it releases I'd move it on as well.

        • +1

Cake, what hell bromeigo! Why the betrayal?

On a more serious note, your reasoning for not being very interested in your Wii U now is the opposite reason for most people who are currently getting one.

Side note: I wish MH4 was getting a release on the Wii U, that would make me so happy. So very happy.

        • @heywes:
I know it's not the most popular of opinions but I can't stick that little red plumber. I bought the Wii and WiiU to follow the MH stores after it jumped ship from PS.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

We could have Bayonetta 2'd together. You have cut me deep!

I'm just waiting for them to announce another MH on it. I would be a little surprised if they didn't. Then we find out its Japan only and I cry.

Super smash bros now arriving in November, info in post

You may want to add this to your BIG OL' LIST of things.

    • cheers

      • so awesome!!

  • Latest update is up :)

    • Wii downloadable title, Pandora's Tower.

Makes me feel like an idiot jerk for buying Pandora's Tower for 70 bucks at Christmas as it was increasing in rarity.

STILL CAN'T FIND XENOBLADE THOUGH. Oh they're making a N3DS version? I'm not going to buy a N3DS straight away. Assumptions are, by the time I do want it, Xenoblade will be incredibly rare again.

You just won't let me win, Nintendo :C

  • The MH 4 Ultimate edition of the new 3dsXL is available for pre order at EB… probably old news.

But i went to place my pre order yesterday and apparently you can trade your old system in for $90…

So a brand new new 3DS XL MH edition + game is roughly $159… not bad if you ask me =)

    • Does it matter which kind of 3DS you have? 3DSXL, 3DS, or 2DS?

      • I only asked about the 3DS XL trade in… didn't check the other models. Sorry bout that.

Also, forgot to mention the trade in offer is up til 28th… so next week wednesday is the deadline.

        • I don't think I can commit to something so expensive that I already have* in such a small timeframe! D:

(*)Well, not a N3DS, but there's only one game that's exclusive so far. But I admit the C-stick sounds like it'll be used a lot more in the future.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Honestly, I wanted a special 3DS XL because you can't change the face plate on the XLs.

And for roughly $100 for the console, I don't mind the price.

    • +1

Wait but the MH edition doesn't come with the game?

      • +2

Shit… you know, maybe I should've asked before putting my money down T_T

Was in a hurry at the time so I didn't think about that… late to a movie lol…

        • yeh i thought it did too initially and was just about to get it until i saw the notice on EB :/

now still on the border between it and a new 3ds sighh.

but yeh MH4 edition is still ridiculously sexy :P (much prefer it to the majora's mask one).

        • @Astro551:

Well I love the MH franchise so I was sold by the MH Limited edition… just didn't know it didn't come with game T_T.

I wish they brought it out on PS V though… better graphics and controll scheme.

Was reading up on microSD for the n3DS XL… found out that MHU4 is supposedly pre installed into the 4Gb… anyone have any info on this?

        -EDIT-

        Bah, scratch that… it's a bundle… derped -_-

        • lol got me excited! :(

        • @Astro551:

Does not come with the game. Seems a bit derpy. Still ordered mine, but, wish it was bundled.

  • Latest update Is up for Upcoming 3DS/2DS/3DSXL GAMES

  • For the 3DS, if you take away cross platform games, remakes and Japanese RPG's I'm not seeing the great array of games.

I have a Wii U, a PC and an Android phone, so if a game is on that also, I'd buy it for that. If it is a remake, I'll play an emulated version of it because it is more convenient. I've played enough JRPG's from the SNES days onwards that I've lost interest in them.

Am I missing something? 3DS Mario is good, but I'm not thrilled.

    • +2
      • Pokemon
      • Fire Emblem
      • Professor Layton
      • Phoenix Wright
      • Mario & Luigi series
      • Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

That's just a few from the top of my head, I don't know why you would take away JRPGs and remakes, Bravely Default is another fantastic game and Nintendo have done a brilliant job in bringing back Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask.

      • Thanks for responding, yeah Mario and Zelda are always great. You can always count on them.

Pokemon, well I've completed 2 of the old ones (Yellow and Silver), new ones seem not to add much more for me.

I'll check out Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton.

My problem with JRPG's comes mainly from their dialogue, I'm not sure if it is translation or just different cultures but conversations and actions happen so fast. You typically play a young teen with angst, hair covering eyes, who goes out to save the world, your mum pushes you out the door, you meet a girl and its instant love but they keep looking away from each other and then you get a nemesis after one brief chat. Then on top the tactics are: Attack, Magic, Item, Retreat, while waiting for your bar to charge, which you have to grind a 1000+ times to level up to really high numbers.

I really enjoyed the tactics in the recent X-COM and Divinity Original Sin, both were challenging and a had lot of tactical variety. I really enjoy the stories in the recent Telltale games. I'm also currently addicted to the mobile Injustice game.

        -Remakes-
So they are better than the originals? I dislike paying large $$$ for a port of a game that was made over 10 years ago, it is lazy development for large profits. If they've modified the game, making it better, then that is different. I guess I'm too use to Steam and GoG.com for me to pay $40+ for a 10+ year old game.

Here are some of my favourite 3DS games.

Monster Hunter 3/4 Ultimate. I'm 200 hours in, and never going to stop. $48

Kid Icarus. One of my favourite 3DS games. Difficult, with hundreds of weapons, and 20 hours long. Replayability with heaps of in game achievements and the difficulty slider. By the Super Smash Brothers director. $19

Lylatwars (Star Fox). An amazing remake if you haven't played the N64 one. It may be a 'lazy port' (THEY CHANGED WOLF'S VOICE!? HOW COULD THEY DO THAT TO MEEEEEE) but it's still a fantastic game that has aged so well. $26 pre-owned

Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Life. Weird social games that have an intensely strange compelling feeling to continue playing every day til you have all the things. $48

Already specified, but Professor Layton series finishes up on 3DS with a spectacular finale. One of my favourite series for story, which is kind of like if you asked Japanese people to remake Uncharted. Between $23 and $48

Fire Emblem Awakening. Whilst it's not exactly as 'hardcore' as playing XCOM on Hardcore, FE:A has a butt-ton of features and content which will keep you playing the intense strategical marriage simulating time-travel fantasy RPG. Though it's mocked by long time FE fans for being a bit easy. $48

The 3DS is an amazing console. Comparing it to the DS it's leagues better. Hell, it's even better than the Wii. There are more 3DS games I love, but I can't remember them right now. This is all coming from an adult, moderately hardcore gamer with no real bias toward companies or brands.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Thanks, I'll look into these.

        • +1

@FabMan: If I had to pick one I suggest more than any other, I would pick Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. If you're not familiar with it, it's basically if Dark Souls and Cabela's Big Game Hunting had a baby. Notorious for being an inaccessible cult-classic series, MH4U touts the most accessible the game has ever been, with an ACTUAL tutorial. And 4 player co-op against huge monsters is intense. Online is heavily populated and extremely friendly. And there's an Ozbargain forum topic for MH4U too! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/184833

It's a console-grade hack and slash intense fighting game on a portable system, and god damn it works well considering the technical limitations. 4 player co-op against 2 giant monsters at once has NO framerate issues or slowdown. Cartridge for the win.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:
Where can you get kid Icarus for 19?

        • @leonheart1: EB, pre-owned, and K-Mart….. Maybe not right now. But it was $19 everywhere at Christmas time.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Okay Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate first then, if I don't like it, oh well.

        • +1

@FabMan: If you get it from EB you can always take it back in a week :P Price match Target's $48. It's pretty slow starting, because they send you after hunting butterflies and mushrooms before 440 metre long gigantic spiked snakes.

  • Netflix has been added to Wii U
Nintendo Will Product Games For Smartphones But will NOT Port It's classic Console Games

    • Don't forget to mention the Nintendo NX. The supposed console that nobody wants.

      • Lol how do you know nobody wants? Nothing is known about it

        • Because I want them to innovate further for the Wii-U. Metroid, F-Zero, Megaman. I want these things on Wii-U. I don't want to buy a new console when the current one is fine. ;_;

        • @FrankMcFuzz: They're working on a new console the same way that Microsoft and Sony would be currently working on new consoles- create them now, release them in a few years. Nintendo just decided to release the codename for the next console. For all we know it could be a successor to the 3DS.

        • @enidan:
Not a chance. Nintendo has a brand that sells and one that doesn't. Why would they replace the massive DS when they have a floundering Wii brand that apparently confuses soccer moms?

They won't, the next DS will have DS in the name, the next home console will not have Wii in the name though who knows, perhaps we'll get a fusion of both consoles as a continuation of the WiiU project.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: My impression was that it wasn't replacing the Wii u but rather complementing the Wii u and the 3ds as well as mobile and tablet devices.

  • Club Nintendo's doing digital games now (though most of them are Virtual Console titles).

The star catalogue should be updated within the next few days.

  • Latest Nintendo update is up :)

  • Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64 are both listed as $13. Pretty steep for games that are 18 & 16 years old respectively.

    • Purahcase 3 get 1 free makes it a little better if you want 3 of the games offered before April 16th

Latest upcoming games are now up :)
