Looks as good as one would expect, the first couple of seasons are a bit meh but it was the late 80s/early 90s. There's no signs of VHS-like symptoms and the image is clean throughout
I have this set and agree with above.
I believe these DVD releases are just transfers from the digital tape, I have them and they really don't look that great.
Though a blu-ray release actually is quite possible at some point, as they recently re-mastered the whole series again in high definition from the original film negatives a few years ago after these DVD's were produced.
Because the original film negatives, which I believe were 3:2 ratio actually had extra area on the sides which was cropped out for the original TV and these DVD releases, the new 16:9 widescreen remasters were able to use the extra video on the sides of the film so reduce the amount of cropping needed on the top and bottom of the frame, resulting in a very nice looking widescreen version which looks great in HD and doesn't lose anything important like a lot of other recent widescreen remasters for other shows.
Here is an image showing an example the TV/DVD aspect ratio cropping in the red frame, and the new 16:9 widescreen version in the green frame.
Channel Nine/WIN HD used to have air these new HD 16:9 widescreen remasters a few years ago, back before the new multi-channels launched their HD channel became GEM HD instead, and then Channel 7mate acquired the rights to air these as well more recently. Now the only channel that airs them is TV1/TVH!TS on Foxtel, but these are downscaled from HD to SD. I recorded most of the series in HD when it originally aired and saved them, and they look so much better on a HDTV than the DVD versions which I rarely watch now.
Boy, these pretzels are makin' me thirsty.
not that there's anything wrong with that…

Because this is 20% off the catalogue price ($83), I think $66.40 will be the price instore tomorrow.
Still wish they'd do a blu ray release.
All the episodes have been remastered to HD for TV broadcasts and can be torrented, but the torrents have watermarks and annoying ads. In HD the episodes have more screen size on the sides and more resolution. When I watched the show in HD not only was I impressed by the quality but I couldn't help but notice more details.
With that said, the DVD release is pretty good and there's a generous amount of special features.
If this were released on Blu-ray it would also solve the 4% speed-up issue with PAL DVDs. Blu-rays are not affected by this.
Do you know if the HD versions are simply made by cropping the top and bottom for a wider view?
From memory, no. There is extra information on the sides that was actually cropped for the final releases. During filming they focused on what was in the 4:3 frame as this is how they planned on releasing the show.
I would avoid this. Being PAL DVD, the audio is sped up by 4% resulting in stupid high-pitched sounding voices (as if Seinfeld's voice isn't high pitched enough??).
I just started watching the series and holy crap it's hilarious.
Again or first time? If it's your first time I'm jealous…
First time. Took a few eps to get the ball rolling, as with any show, but I'm hooked.
Awesome, strap yourself in as is each season gets more and more outlandish.
I felt the same. Took me 6-12mths to lose my 'anger' for it. It frustrated me, couldn't put my finger on it. Half was the show, the other half was the hype that was taking-over.
I finally had a'stand-off'… sat down alone, and watched some episodes. Gave it a fair go.
Oh man, that's gold!
Still hooked. Never get tired of it… yet, still can't bring myself to watch the last episode! LOL
@Utopian: It won't be long before you guys are referencing Seinfeld moments in every-day real-life situations that remind you of episodes…
and you know the script so well, you could watch it with the sound turned off and still laugh out loud because you know exactly what they're saying in each scene. Their voices are tattooed on your brain.
@waterlogged turnip:
You're not wrong, someone at a party I was at last night sneezed… I instantly said 'you are sooo good looking'.

Be glad you didn't waste your money on rubbish.
Hopefully you don't go to a real store
Are you referring to the show, or the quality of the box set?
List me some other cleverly nihilistic comedy TV series from the 90s that went against the grain of all the other shows on at the time…
@waterlogged turnip:
Good poo?
Waste of money. Just do a series tag on the eppys being run on 7mate.

I'd like to hope the Blu-ray would be released in the not so distant future, but if talks of it coming to Netflix are true then it looks like it will never come.
Well this changes everything.!!!!
Can anyone comment on the quality of this on DVD, since blu-ray will probably never be released.
