Hello OzBargain, I was wanting to build myself a gaming pc. Does anyone know any workshops were they help you with that. Or better, where to find really cheap parts so that i can put it together. Looking at a max of $700. If anyone has any ideas for a gaming laptop that is already assembled this would be great. Again, the budget is $700. Thanks in advance

Do you have a monitor? Because if you don't, your budget won't be enough. $700 for gaming laptop not possible. $700 for desktop excluding monitor? Doable.
It depends what you want to play. I have a shitbox and I only paid a couple hundred for it, but it plays everything I want to play. If you're going for a minecraft-level box, 700 will do that. If you want to play all the latest shooting games (which I can't imagine why) you'll need to go higher.
Yes i do have a monitor . I want about 3.7 ghz i5 and about 2gb video graphics with a minimum of 12 gb ram
Why 12gb of ram? 8 gb is sufficient for a $700 dollar budget gaming pc. 8 gb of ram already sets you back $100 and is MORE than enough for most games out there.
A laptop would also be highly suitable and if i want i can hook it up to my monitor
I wouldn't get a laptop to hook up to a monitor, the GFX card won't cope.
A few things to note: Don't choose a GFX card based on the VRAM, you definately don't need 12gb of RAM and any 4xxx i5 is going to give you a similar result, the bottleneck is going to be your GFX card with this budget.
Before I get into anything I just want to say that if you decide to spend all your money on specific parts you will have a Ferrari car with the engine of a Prius, you need to balance it out for it to work properly.
Go to Logical Increments if you want some idea of what sort of PC you can get with your money (note that the US is the default country). The prices are somewhat inflated from what you can find on ozbargain but it's a start.
It's very rare to be able to assembly your own laptop, usually you get something from some manufacturer who has a line of models where you can swap out specific parts.
Nah, I would actually prefer a gaming laptop for under $600
MSY is one of the cheaper stores for computer parts… as for a workshop to teach/help you… I'd suggest looking up videos on youtube… i'm sure i saw one or two of them up there.
