Price matching at Myer

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has experience price matching at Myer?

I'm travelling this weekend and need a new carry on bag. Myer carry Samsonite, but I know the website http://theluggageprofessionals.com.au/ carry it cheaper. They do have a real store too, but some stock is carried in their warehouse and prior arrangements need to be made for in store pickup.

I'm not sure if this would disqualify me from price matching?

Cheers!

  • Myer will most probably say " that price is below our cost".

    • I once got "well go to JB then" when I tried to price match an Apple item at Myer.

      So I did.

      Rude.

    • Yep. Much easier at David Jones IME.

  • Yep exactly what I got when I tried to price match something from peters of Kensington "that's below our cost" biggest crock ever

  • Samsonite are sometimes at 40% off at Myers so if you want to price match and state that as well it might help.

    • Good point.

@ 40% the price is the same as the online price I linked to, so they should have no reason to use the "below cost" excuse as they've clearly sold at that price before.

        You need to understand retail.

Often "specials" are supplied by the manufacturer. They will give a bulk deal price, or even a rebate back for sales during the "specials" validity. So a retailer who is selling an X120P at 40% might have got a concessional price, where as other retailers dont get that deal during the sale period, and they dont get it either outside the sale time.

Other times one retailer gets the deal price to advertise on the X120P will another gets it on a Y234L

So in this case the 40% can be below myer's cost price at the present time.

Keeping in mind also that sales staff are given a cost price and that does not include rebates that the store might get for reaching a volume target, or other marketing incentives.

And finally lets say a product costs $120 but you want to buy it for say $122, the margin isnt always worth the retailer selling it to you, as they have to cover the costs if you return it for warranty or change of mind etc and the $2 or whatever isnt enough.

  • Myer did price match for me but admittedly it was a few years ago. Maybe their policies and attitudes have changed?

  • I priced matched good guys on a ereader last month, no questions asked. The attendant just put it thru after I showed the website price. It was easy as.

  • I've price matched a Samsonite Firelite on two separate occasions. I priced match Victoria Station by taking a photo of the price and showing it to a Myer staff member. They had to make a phone call, but that was it. The price was less than the 40% off they had going at the moment.

Just to follow up, had success with price matching the bag.

Was served by a really nice lady too, which really made the experience pleasurable. More often than not no one offers assistance at Myer, which is why I generally go there to physically look at items and then buy online at a cheaper price.

    No arguing or anything.
She scanned the bag in, had a look, and said, "no problem, I can do 40% off instead of the current 30% off."

  • Myer just had a 35% of all luggage sale that finished last weekend. Bought some light weight Antler luggage (we got 40% off as there was a targetted Myer One card deal that the Chadstone store incorrectly displayed) and claiming back gst in upcoming trip. We bought from Myer as we had $200 in gift cards othewise one of the luggage chain (can't remember the name - Sandbaggers ?, the store is a couple of door down from Teds camera in Chadstone)is always 30 - 35% off.
