    Thanks, got a key, however:

Each code grants players access to the game through August 29, 2014.

16GB download for only 2 days play expiring before the weekend :/

    • +1

Ah I didn't notice that, I wouldn't be playing it until the weekend anyway, still, good find.

      • I'm kind of just hoping that by getting into this beta it'll allow access to other betas, or perhaps this beta will be extended a bit. Just have to wait and see…

      Thanks, saved me a download.

i got the key yesterday but havnt downloaded it yet, 16gb for 2 days play? pffttt not with the shitty australian broadband i wont be….

        • Just went through all the crap to get it started (hoping it'll finish before 2019…) and it's actually saying it'll be "playable" after ~3GB has downloaded..

        • Just played it with only 3GB downloaded and it's fine!

    • NO worries. Yeah only til' 29th August and it's 16GB..

  • Got one thanks!

    • Welcome!

  • Seems to be another console port for PC:

The final game will run in 1080p with 30 frames per second on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC

      You missed the edit:

EDIT: We can officially say that we're aiming for 60FPS on PC at launch. Our Beta build is still more performant at 30FPS, but you can expect to play at 60FPS on PC when the game is launched.

But yes, ultimately just a console port, and given Ubisoft's history, it's probably a poor one.

      • +2

I deliberately left the edit out. It seemed to me to be a 'damage control' comment in response to the flood of comments along the lines of '30fps on pc? I have now cancelled my pre-order'. I'm a bit more cynical; 'expect' does not mean guaranteed.

        • Depending on the PC system its difficult to 'guarantee' anything - compared to the known hardware that is a console. They'll have people on laptops with integrated GFX and people on desktops with titans, I'm sure they'll be logging systems, resources and the fps results in the betas to come up with a recommended spec… as well as optimising other parts of the game.

        • +1

@Elijha: I understand, but there is a difference between optimising and restricting. For example Need for Speed Rivals was locked at 30fps on PC. No matter how high end your system was, 30fps was all you could get. My concern is that Ubisoft will will do the same for The Crew.

'Aiming for 60fps on PC' is a meaningless statement since, as you point out, a PC is so varied in capabilities. Are they aiming for 60 fps on integrated graphics? or in Crossfire setups? max detail? min detail? I assume they have a 'modal' specification that they are using and targeting performance based on that, but without releasing what that is we are none the wiser.

        • Seems more 'damage control' in terms of the community manager assuming 30 fps for everyone when that's actually just for console. There are very few games that are actually locked to 30 fps on PC, and I doubt they're actually going to do that.

    • Absolutely disgusting.

      • What is disgusting?

        • That the game may, by design, have a performance restriction put upon it.

  • Got one, thanks!

    • Welcome!

  • After realising that there is no way in hell i can d/l 16GB in two days (bloody telstra) anyone who wants a the key i got can have it… just lemme know via PM.

    Cheers

    • Apparently you can play with 3GB downloaded^^

  • Anyone have any PROS & CONS for the beta?

Just curious and liked to know if it was worth downloading

    • +1

      Pros:
Seems like a decent game, at least once it's finished.

      Cons:
Controls. Trying to steer the car has given me cancer.

I can't say it wasn't worth downloading, as I think I'll end up getting the game once it's final.
16GB wasn't a massive deal to me as I never hit my limit, and I guess UbiSoft have some Aus servers because I was getting 9MB/sec download speeds.

I'll concur on both accounts. Even using a controller was a nightmare!! Some of the cars just fishtailed the entire race…

        • I found a post on the beta forum that said to use a 360 controller (which I was) and to make certain changes to tree control settings.

Even after that it felt like there was a half second to a full second delay between controller action and vehicle response.

  • If you have downloaded and played with a G27, please post back how well they support gameing Wheel's.

I would hate to pay full pre-release price on steam @ $74.95 to access Beta (Which I have been considering) and find out I have to use a game pad to play a Car raceing game. I am already at 160 of 200Gb this month and can't affort the 16Gb to test myself.

    • Downloading now, but have to go to work… will fire up the G27 when I get home, and let you know how it feels.
(Just got around to inverting the pedals on the weekend, and can't believe how much better it works!)

      • Sorry for late reply, work got in the way of my gaming :(

Anyway, this game is pretty average arcadey crap. No point in using a quality wheel and pedals.
