Go Pro (Hero 3 White) advice

Hi all
Found a GoPro Hero 3 White for sale cheaply
So even though I had little use for it I bought it anyway - true ozbargain spirit!

Looking for some advice on getting started
I have bunged an old 4gb Micro SD card in and it seems to work ok but fills up after an hour on 720p
Clearly I need a larger card - 32gb or even 64gb
Do I need to spring for the best Class 10 card or whatever?
Is the top speed card vital?

Also came with the standard accessories - waterproof case, different door and a couple of sticky mounts
Does anyone have good suggestions on other mounts and accessories to buy

Lastly any suggested how to videos etc for beginners would be great
There are SO many on Youtube it's hard to find something good
Cheers

class 10 seems to be the way to go. Particularly with the extra features that require fast write speed.

With most cameras, generally going with a faster card solves any problems. Just borrow one if you're unsure?

Not really that difficult? Press record, then go white water rafting/sky diving. ;)

    • Thanks Davo
I have the White which means only up to 1080 at 30fps and not 1080 at 60fps or 4k or other highest modes available in Black model
That said I think I will wait for the next OzB special on a Class 10 and go with that

So your are saying the only accessory I really need is a sense of adventure?! :)

      • I've got the hero 3 white. It's a great camera. I run it at 720p 60fps with a class 10 32gb card. The 32 is enough for a couple of battery charges so as long as you download fairly regularly it is plenty of space. Not sure if the hero 3 copes with 64gb.

As above, strap/mount it onto something and go for it. I use mine on bike mount mostly as an incident camera, but also use chest mount for MTB riding, strapped it onto a life jacket for kayaking, hand held for snorkelling and general larking about in the pool/water slide.

Thing to try and remember is that shaking/moving really messes up your footage so try and mount it somewhere stable. Over the time I've used mine my footage is getting better as I've worked out how much shake is too much. The beauty of digital though is you can just delete the crappy footage until you get used to it. Don't however, expect that your footage will be great for the first few tries. Using the wifi mobile app helps line the camera up before starting too.

As for accessories I used the case backing plate and cut/modified it to strap onto my backpack/life jacket for a chest mount. I've also got the handlebar mount for the bike which suits the seatpost as well. Just ordered a couple more mounts for the bike too. The pole mount is probably handy but I'd just stick one of the bases onto a bit of broom handle for cheap if I wanted.

The clear stick mount, whatever its called, is probably the most versatile mount . I have a Sony action cam..used it for skiing, now it sits in my cupboard..
do you do any outdoor activities?

    • ironically no we don't really
Although we have 2 boys 9&12 and both in Scouts so there is some hope LOL
Used it to record our TaeKwonDo class this week and pretty happy with that
