Survey - Rego + CTP

I am just curious to find out what other people Rego and CTP cost…

I guess you cannot do much about the rego cost but with CTP, different company different price.
I have done some comparison online, it seems NRMA is the most expensive one maybe because of it has "At-Fault Drive Cover" feature. Not quite sure if it is worthy…

Me
NSW 2160
*2005 NISSAN Pulsar Sedan 1.8L
*Rego: $288
*NRMA CTP: $767.52
*No Comprehensive Insurance
*No Road Side Assistance

*Age: Im 26 but the car is under my father's name, he's 56. When we purchase the CTP i don't know if i have put my name or age into the policy, does that matter???

Plus the vehicle inspection fee each year, all compulsory cost all up is about $3 a day.

You might want to add you age as that will be a big factor as well

  • My NRMA CTP is the cheapest, compared to others.

    • How much?

This was back in March. NRMA In NSW $550, compared to QBE $700.
Part of it is the multi policy discount. One way to get around is to get a cover note for comprehensive and also buy CTP at the same time. Then dump the comprehensive. However, now no more cover note. Need to pay first then cancel within cooling off period

        • I LOL'ed at NRMA's multi policy discount. You know it's more expensive to shop there but because you want to have it all in the same company thinking you'll be in front eventually

  • Victoria rural $647 for rego and TAC of a light vehicle.

  • NSW 2285 2012 Toyota… Rego $0 (age pens) CTP $342 … (94c day)

  • Just put other details in the maa website.

    Like age
    Locality
    accidents

    and you will find out.

My brother who is currently overseas saved $300 by having his car in storage, registered at my place rather than at my sisters

  • Rego costs is listed here for NSW http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/registration/feesconcessions/regis…

Green slip price comparisons are here

    2008 Aurion
    CTP QBE 550 ish
    Registration costs $484

NRMA have gotten worse. $100 more expensive than previous costs.

CTP Greenslip for 2013 Holden Captiva was originally $520ish through NRMA. Negotiated this down to $400 after I complained and they told me it was 'calculated incorrectly'.

Just got renewal for 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage, $520. Rang NRMA to complain and they so far wont budge.

NRMA tell me they have this 'At-fault driver cover'. But go have a look at what a greenslip is because it is exactly that.

From the MAA "A Green Slip is an insurance policy linked to your vehicle that provides cover for compulsory third party (CTP) personal injury insurance when you or the person driving your vehicle is the driver at fault in an accident, and in certain circumstances regardless of who was at fault."

    • Fair go, the insurance companies have to pay for all the advertising they now do.

From Funerals to Dogs, about 40% of all ads on TV have to be insurance related.

So they have increased costs to cover.

Problem being that they arent risk based increases… :(

    • Anything to do with the freaking additional levies - just getting more and more..

  • Just an interesting note about CTP.

I noticed when my CTP renewal was due about 2 months ago I shopped around for a better deal and found that CTP quote was about 10% less if my quote was at least 7 days before rego is due. That at least for the insurance company I was dealing with.

So if your shopping for a CTP, do it a couple of weeks before your rego expires.

Just called NRMA, from this year i might get the Third Party Property Damage as well, add another $250 on top of the CTP i currently have ($767) then i will have both, may be worth it. Traffic on the road right now is ridiculous…In Sydney!

  • In NSW CTP prices are semi-regulated by the government. Insurance companies have to supply the govt with their pricing for govt approval and aren't allowed to discount on top of this.

There is no company who is always the cheapest. It will vary based on risk criteria.

Some companies will reduce the price of other policies if you have multiple policies including CTP.

Just go with the cheapest and always use the MAA website for price comparison: http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au

  • Sorry for bring back an old thread, but I'm curious what others are paying for their CTP… I'm really shocked when i saw mine is around $850…

    Age: 26
    Type: Light motor vehicle
    Year of make: 2012
    Postcode: 2768
    Owner: Privately owned

Been driving for 8 years and have not had any accident or demerits. Comprehensive insurance with NRMA and current CTP with NRMA. Max no claim bonus with NRMA.

How the hell are the cost calculated… they seem unreasonably high to me… especially when my older workmates pay about $500 as well as my parents…

    • CTP is ridculous in NSW

the only people paying $500 is 60+ old farts

      • The car needs to be less than 10 years old on full comp and not with NRMA to get it in the $500's for mid 30's.

        • I just randomly put in the age and the CTP starts to get cheap from 28y.o.

That used to be 25… until i turned then they change it >_>
