Macbook Pro Charger Broken

Hey Guys
I have got a 2013 Macbook Pro that I purchased in March 2013. It had 1 year warranty and today the charger stopped working. The cable had started to snap a couple of months ago and when i took it to the apple store they said that its working perfectly fine so they wont replace it. I took the charger back in today and they told me that they cant replace it because its beyond repair now and I would have to pay $99 for a replacement. I really dont want to spend almost $100 on a charger are there any other chargers that would be compatible with it. I was looking at a few generic chargers on ebay but i really dont want to mess up my almost $2000 laptop.

Any Help is appreciated. Thanks :)

Go back to them, you should have a 24 month warranty. Given you also told them before about the issue, they will know that you have had an issue before.

Maybe choose another store or ring Apple's hotline. I found in the past they were rather helpful.

You should be covered under the Australian consumer law which is 24 months for computers. The MagSafe 2 chargers seems to be relatively easy to break and expensive to replace too. I wouldn't touch the third party ones on ebay, that's just a disaster waiting to happen but $100 is a lot for a pretty basic charger. Hope they replace it for you :)

Take it back and tell them "statutory warranty" - they should replace it on the spot

  • I recently bought one via ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-85W-AC-Power-Adapter-Char…

I went to their shop to pick up but you can also get it delivered. It is a genuine Apple charger unlike others on ebay.

  • I have had problems with my magsafe 2 starting to fray/come apart, the Apple Store were firm in telling me that it was my fault. I honestly could not be bothered dealing with Fair Trading ect. but I heard about this..

It is great! Not any use for you if it has completely come apart but for anyone else reading or future reference.

I would avoid generic/third party chargers.
