Having a stopover (10 hours) in Abu Dhabi Airport in few weeks. Anyone got advice on what to look out for?

What hours are you there? ie. daytime/overnite
Day time
Do I need visa to go out of airport? If an issue I'd just stay inside.
So helpful ;)
Anyways, there's the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which isn't too far from the airport itself (Go if you want historic). Yas Island, which has Waterworld and Ferrari World, is also not too far (Go if you want fun). If you want to head into Abu Dhabi City though, the Corniche walk/beach are amazing (Go if you want relaxation/shopping/stroll along the waters walk).
Surely I'd need a visa and hardly worth hassle of bags etc?
Nope. You get a 30 day visa stamped on your passport on arrival.
You can also just check your bags straight to your final destination when you head to the Etihad (I assume you're flying with them) check-in counter in Australia. You don't really need bags for most of Abu Dhabi anyways. The only place I'd imagine you'd need a change of clothes would be Waterworld.
I reckon the Corniche walk/beach is the ticket.
Do they have restrictions about money changing etc? What about what to buy (I will be on the way back to Aus) either on the street or in Airport duty free). I have never been too this part of the world before (very much a Singapore/Bangkok stopover person!) and if you don't ask you'll never know!
The Corniche walk is a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong walk. You won't be able to walk from end to end, but the area itself is beautiful, as is the beach area.
I'm not sure what you mean by restrictions? There are several currency exchange facilities at the airport as well as ATMs if you need to withdraw money.
There are a lot of malls in Abu Dhabi as well, Marina Mall is the closest to the Corniche so you might like to try that for shopping. The malls in Abu Dhabi aren't as big as Dubai, but they have a lot of the major brands. Jewelry/gold is also good in the UAE.
One of the worst airports I've ever had a stop over. Absolute sh1thole. Anyway if you stay in he airport my advice would be to pay into one of the lounges or head over to the hotel for a shower: http://www.abudhabiairport.ae/english/airport-information/ai…
Well, got there and a few points.
Cleaner than some.
There are sleeping 'cells' for hourly hire but there also quiet places to stretch out.
There is free access to computers
