WD My Passport Drive Speed?

Hey guys
I bought one of these WD My Passport 750GB drives from here -

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/103155

Was wondering if anyone can tell me if it's a 5400 or 7200 drive?

I was going to use my spare one for my xbox one seeing you can now boot games from a external hard drive which is faster then the internal hard drive.

Thanks

  • If you have the internal harddrive model number you can determine the speed and other specifications.

Either plug in into a computer and search around in the properties of the drive to find it. Or you can simply open it up.

  • Sorry I can't tell you the specs but I did buy one of these as well for my Xbox one and I can tell the speed is defiantly much faster

  • That's a good thing

    Was yours a 750GB too?

    • 1TB

      • I just plugged my passport into my xbox one but the drive always stays on

It's light is always on and I can feel the drive humming meaning on

Is this the same with yours?

I would have thought the drive would turn off when the xbox one is off

  • Try CrystalDiskInfo on your computer. Hopefully, you'll be able to get some detailed info on it (some USB drives won't work, unfortunately).

  • +1

External drives aren't usually 7200RPM, as mechanical drives produce heat and runs off USB power, they usually use a 5200RPM spec to ensure they run cooler and keep costs down.

  • Ok thanks

I'm reading that even tho it's 5400 with USB3 it's faster then the Xbox one internal drive at 5400 sata 2

  • Ok so I finally got my WD My Passport 750GB working with my Xbox one

When I turn off my xbox one now the external hard drives stops spinning and turns off but the LED light on the drive slowly flashers still, this normal?

Also if yes, does it use much power?
