Network separation Router/Extender

Hi, is it possible to separate the network subnet between a Wireless ADSL router and a wireless extender?
The purpose of this is to disallow client communication between clients of the 2 access points but still allow Internet access for all clients and local network access for clients connecting to each AP.

Hardware devices and example SSID and network subnets below:

Billion 7301vgp
SSID: AP1
192.168.1.0/24 network

TP-Link TL-WA850RE
SSID: AP2
192.168.2.0/24 network

The following link shows how to do this for DD-WRT compatible routers, but mine isn't on the list

  • why don't you get a better router. Have two ssid and put them in separate vlans.

  • +1

any suggestions for a decent router (preferred with in-built ADSL modem) that can do the trick?

    • depends on your budget. just search up any router that can do multiple SSID and vlan.

Vigor, fritz and billion can do it which are good soho routers.

  • What happens if you plug router a into router b, then turn on NAT for router A? Wouldn't that achieve what you want?

  • You could use the extender as a wireless bridge, then buy a cheap wireless router. You would plug the extender/bridge Ethernet port into the WAN port on the router, and setup the new router on the 192.168.2.0/24 range, as per your example above.

  • If you could have router running DDWRT, you can then use VLAN function to make it.

Some other cheap router, like WD MYNET N600 will also do the trick as they have guest wireless AP.
