Good Smart Phone Between $100-$200

Looking for one from my sister. Told her I will handle it, if she's patient. Been looking for a couple of weeks and nothing much has come up.

Not sure whether to wait for a DSE and pick a phone, tried that today but the one I was interested in was on a pre-paid deal so it was not accepted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Huawei G526 (Vodafone prepaid) If it does not unlock on Voda for free then plenty of cheap unlockers around.
Best bang for the $ for under $200.

    • Thanks! Will have a look for a cheap price!

      • Hi treeman,
Have you found a phone for your sister yet?

If not you need to ask her if she want the phone locked to a provider like Telstra, Optus or Vodafone, does he want it unlocked, does she want a Nokia Windows or Android phone and how she wants to use it? For cameras, Internet etc?

Also you might be able to still use other companies in Telstra, Optus or Vodafone locked phone.

For example using a Amaysin in a Optus Locked phone.

Or if she wants to use a unlocked phone, a warning even those the phone is unlocked especially for overseas brands, some provider sim might not be able to work in the unlocked due to network issues.

As for buying a unlocked phone, there are a number on Ebay and you paid by Paypal (which most sellers want you to pay.

I bought from China a Doogee dual sim for around $110 which I am happy with and you can also buy a Cubot within your budget.

But if you are looking for Australian seller and single sim they are there on Ebay as well and also The Post Office and Coles has phones for sale.

So hopefully I gave enough info for you and your sister.

        • Thanks!

She is with an optus wholesaler so it would need to be optus but as you can unlock vodafone phones they are fine too.

She wants to purchase it from an Australian store because she can take it back if there are any problems so ebay or china is kinda out of the question.

I think the current big w special starting thursday will be the way to go with the vodafones on special 25% off.

  • This any good from China for $155 ? No reviews as yet.

    Might be my next.

    • Only if you're on Optus, an optus reseller, or one of the places where Voda are roaming to them: 900/2100MHz

  • get yourself a xiaomi hongmi

I got myself an xiaomi hongmi/redmi.. definitely the best option for this price range.

just make sure your carrier supports the phone (I'm not sure if telstra does.. they probably do but yeah.)

I bought it figuring the cost of breaking it would be equal to or less than the cost of replacing the screen on any $300+ phone.

  • I would actually look at a second hand sony phone, they make great phones but they aren't very popular and don't retain value. You may also pick up a HTC One M7 for quiet cheap now.

I would recommend the Motorola Moto E for that price range. It's a reasonable low-end device running stock Android KitKat, built by a reputable manufacturer.

It's $177 at TGG in black or white

    Also $177 at JB Hifi

  • I would also recommend Moto G, fantastic phone, and by the sound of this —-> (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158350) the G526 is not a great choice….
