140

5GB.co is offering a free web hosting account with 5gb of storage. The time has never been better to host your "Norwegian forest cats dressed as Santa Claws" website.

Includes:

  • 5GB Storage Space
  • 100GB Bandwidth
  • 25 MySQL Databases
  • 10 E-Mail Addresses
  • Host up to 10 Domains
  • Softaculous

I haven't heard of them before. It seems the reddit user jasperto is the owner.

I would AVOID this free host.

The site - 5gb.co is hosted on free reseller account

The nameservers used by 5gb.co are:
    ns1.byet.org
    ns2.byet.org
    ns3.byet.org
    ns4.byet.org

Which is the same as ones obtained if you signup for a free a free reseller account @ http://myownfreehost.net/free-myownfreehost-reseller.php

So, what's your point? What's the risk?

You would be better off getting it directly from http://byethost.com/ as they own the servers and is free also. (For free hosting: http://byethost.com/index.php/free-hosting / for free reseller: http://byethost.com/index.php/resellers )

Rather than getting it from 5gb.co who obtain the free servers from byethost.com and then redistribute to you. If anything goes wrong, it would take much longer to solve. You're adding another 'middleman' into the whole process.

Also if 5gb.co decides to close down then you lose everything. Byethost on the other hand have been online for years.

        It's up to you.

I would rather deal directly with the supplier of the server as it is free anyways.

      Nice investigation

It is not uncommon to host website off site for obvious reasons

      • -1

Jesus what's with the negs? If the main server goes down how do you contact the company? It's normal for companies to host their emails/website/support portal off site in case of server failure.

        Thanks neggers.

        • You are getting negs because you haven't actually researched it. The main company gives out free hosting to anyone who wants it.

  • Give an example showing what to enter to use their sub domain option; we get:

"The domain you entered is not valid. Enter only the part after the www. and include the TLD"

  • Thanks OP.
I always wanted to have my own website for 20 years.
    Now it is my chance.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. You're making it sound like this is the first free web host ever.

  • this looks suss - why would they have free reseller accounts?

    • To get people to resell their service, use up their allocation of free reseller resources, and upgrade to a paid option?

"We also provide an unlimited reseller plan that allows you to offer unlimted disk space, transfer, domains and databases to your clients.

This service comes at only 19.99 USD per month and even includes a free com/net/org domain name."

  • ftp.5gb.coCritical error could not connect to server

  • Or better still, sign up as a reseller yourself with link above and get double the storage space for your accounts with free signup.
Users disk space : 10 GB
    Users bandwidth : 100 GB / Month

  • Don't forget guys, never host something important on a free website as you get what you pay for and the owner can run at anytime.
