Amaysim Unlimited Plan for (Potentially) $33.16 Save $11.74 or 26%

620

OK. So I accept that I might be sailing close to the wind with regard to the whole "Is it technically a deal?" thing; and "Does this belong in the forums?" thing.

But…what the hell…you only live once!

PART ONE

I was in Woolworths this afternoon, at the self-checkout, and noticed that the Amaysim recharge vouchers for the Unlimited Plan are still $39.90. This makes intuitive sense since the price increase does not take effect until Sept 1.

I have bought many of these vouchers before, and so I am familiar with the way that they operate. They do not add credit per se. That is, they do not add $39.90 to the total of your "Additional Credit." Rather, they credit you with one month of the Unlimited Plan per voucher.

If you were to purchase say, $50 of credit, then $50 would be added the total of your "Additional Credit." When your plan was due to renew, $39.90 would be deducted from this total, leaving you with $10.10 of "Additional Credit."

However, as I previously indicated, purchasing a $39.90 voucher would entitle you to one month of the Unlimited Plan without altering the total of your "Additional Credit." Furthermore, in the past I have purchased several recharge vouchers at a time. They are 'stackable' in that you can redeem them all at the same time and they will be honoured one at a time on a month by month basis. It is this fact that makes me think that this concept has some validity.

If you were to purchase multiple vouchers, and applied them to your account, prior to the price increase due Sept 1, then I believe that Amaysim would be obligated to accept and honour each of them. You would have legitimately purchased and paid in full for these vouchers prior to the price increase. Hence, no real problem.

This represents a $5 saving per month for each voucher pre-purchased, or in excess of a 11% saving.

PART TWO

Should you buy these recharge vouchers from Woolworths, there is the potential for additional savings. Woolworths currently have a "save $5 off your next shop when you spend $50." There are T&Cs attached to this offer, but it does not appear to exclude recharge vouchers. It appears it is due to conclude on Sept 26. However, it has been around for a couple of weeks now and so may be rolled over for a further week. There is a maximum of six $5 coupons per customer when shopping online, but this condition is not explicitly stated for instore shopping.

So add a few basics to your shopping basket to take the value from $39.90 to over $50, and a $5 discount coupon will be printed on the bottom of your receipt. The one I have received this afternoon has an expiry date of 29/08/2014.

Use this $5 discount coupon to purchase another basket of 1 x $39.90 Amaysim recharge voucher plus additional groceries to the value of $10.01 [or more]. This process can be replicated at least five further times.

This represents a further $5 saving per recharge voucher pre-purchased i.e., recharge voucher price would be effectively $34.90, representing a further 12.5% saving.

PART THREE

Extending this process further, use your ING debit card to get the relevant rebate.

5% ING rebate - $34.90 recharge voucher - $1.74 rebate
Therefore, the cost of recharge is potentially $33.16 [a saving of in excess of 26%]

2% ING rebate - $34.90 recharge voucher - $0.70 rebate
Therefore, cost of recharge is potentially $34.20 [a saving of almost 24%]

TL;DR VERSION
  • Buy Amaysim recharge voucher from Woolies
  • Add basic groceries to make minimum sale of $50
  • Use ING card for rebate
  • Get $5 discount coupon
  • Repeat tomorrow using above $5 discount coupon [and each day until end of August]

appreciate the time OP has taken to put together a comprehensive guide which could help many people who use Amaysim mate

      • it is extremely appreciated for the time that has been put in… but due to the grey goose vodka deal which ozb caused me to buy.. i now i have 0 attention span to read past the first sentence… (i seriously tried) …. i'm always looking for a reason to leave my $17 plan with Vaya and unfortunately i cant see how i can be bothered even when sober to follow all those instructions…

sorry its a FAIL on my part…. but seriously i cant resist vodka deals….

P.S this is the third time ive read my own post had edited the typo's out…. if i remember in the morning i will check to see if i made any sense….lol

Had you read it - or even glanced over it - you would have seen the TL;DR VERSION at the bottom. I CAPITALISED it and BOLDED it so it would stand out.

I, therefore, can only deduce that you have not read it. That given, how can you proclaim it to be "Not a deal."

      • -1

Why don't you put the TL;DR at the top of the post?

        • +4

how can 'too long; didnt read' be at the top? that makes no sense

  • +3

What's the cheapest unlimited calls+sms+1-4GB data now?
I've loved amaysim but I can't see how costs are going up for a network that's already built so pfft to them.

    • +3

Inflation? ABS says CPI has increased around 3% year-on-year. I don't think Amaysim has changed the unlimited pricing since 2012. 40 x 3% x 3% = 42.50 (maybe $43 given it's approaching September). In that time super contributions have also gone up 0.05%. Does it work out to $44.90 overall? Maybe not, but it probably works out close enough to it that the company decides that $45 is a nice round number to reset to.

At least they're trying to soften the blow with +1GB data, instead of jacking the price $10 /and/ cutting the plan back (looking at you Live Connected).

I was with amaysim for ages and had many of my friends sign up because of the original unlimited $39.90 plan. However going to $45 and an extra GB I'll never use… made me switch last week to Lycamobile. $29.90 for unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data.
It's on the Telstra next G network also so coverage so far has been awesome, however the data is some what slow. But for less then $30 with Telstra reception and NO CONTRACTS it's post or prepaid just like amaysim it's a hard deal to beat.

        sold.

      • +1

        Sold x2

      • Sounds like a good deal for those who go out to the country often. I'll keep it in mind! Thanks :)

      • The data is slow, you said. How does this compare to Aldi's?

        • +1

i tried it before i made the swith to maysim and it was around 2mbps if your lucky.

        • @holden93: thanks, I might get this for the daughter, she mainly uses facebook so it could be okay. At the moment she is on the $30 Aldi's plan with 1Gb of data which is not enough for her.

      • So Next G is just telstra's 3G network right? Does next G get better coverage than 3G though? Or is it the same?

      • With Lycamobile, does unlimited include 13 and 1800 numbers and with data is it per mb or kb blocks.

        • 1300 and 1800 free, however 13 xx xx numbers aren't included. Yes data is slow but it's cheap so you get what you pay for. I have wifi everywhere any how but the data isn't that bad, can still stream youtube etc from it no probs.

        • @MickyH85: Thanks for the info Micky.

      • "The customer will NOT be able to cancel the plan once the plan is activated/purchased"

Is this a forever agreement or just poor wording?

  • -6

How can these thugs get away with calling a plan unlimited, yet you only get 4GB of data? surely consumer affairs would be interested in having a word

    • +1

      It's unlimited talk + text.

    • +1

Optus "unlimited" plan caps out at 2GB (for pretty much the same price)

  • +7

Credit to the OP for putting the effort in to explain his logic. Well done.

  • +1

OP I never use Amaysim. +1 for your enthusiasm to potentially benefit the fellow ozbargainers. Thank you.

    • +6

You don't need to type +1, you can actually give a +1 vote to the deal :P

      • +4

        +1

      • +1

Still no +1 vote from eatwell365!!!!

        • +1. Had a snooze.

  • +4

I was on amaysim and was happy but wasn't too happy with the price rise. I have now moved to Spintel and paying 30ish for a very good 4g optus service!

Will see how long that lasts!

    • +1

      good find mate!!!

  • +3

I love a bargain that includes a story!

  • +2

    http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/super-saver-plan

$29.90 Unlimited talk and text, 2GB data, NO contracts. Telstra coverage.
I've switch from amaysim and won't be going back.

    • This is even better. 3G internet though. But savings of 25$ connections fees as compared to Spintel.

    • Also add on 2gb extra data for $10 effectively making it the same as the current Amaysim Unlimited plan but on the Telstra network :)
EDIT: Promo price for the extra data expires 31/08/14

    • Lycamobile have really bad review in uk however.

      They are new here though…

But i expect them to change network to voda soon, or increase pricing.

Nevertheless im sure their customer service is bad

  • Has anybody got a lyca mobile referral link?

    • They don't seem to have them, however if you PM me your email I can actually send you one. Not even sure what we get out of it but worth a shot.

      • Pfft. $5 on the front page. Doesn't say each.

  • +3

    Part 4?

    And den?

  • Just be aware the reason I ended up on Amaysim instead of aldi or boost was
    1/. Better international roaming options
    2/. full size mailbox.
3/. ability to remote dial into voicemail from overseas and delete/ review etc
    4/. Australian call centre

overall not to worried about small price change and appreciate the extra 1gb

  • +1

Way too much time on your hands to go to all this trouble for a recharge seriously.

  • I am a current Amaysim Unlimited user however thinking of switching to another telco. Does any one recommend a substitute who has unlimited talk & text around 2GB data rates with Australian call centre support around $30-$40 price range?

    • Boost. $40, 2GB, Telstra 3G Coverage, Easy to Port, Telstra Call Centre Support.

    • See my previous post. Lycamobile super saver plan. $29.90 unlimited talk and text, 2GB of data, NO contracts and it's on the telstra next g network so coverage is great. However the data is slow. I can stream youtube and facebook no prob but for the price and no contracts i've been happy for a couple of weeks since switching from amaysim.

  • Crafty work Steve. I've employed a similar technique, however leveraging Vodafone's recharge vouchers :- presently .85 at Woolworths til 26th.
    Using our tips
    (.95 * .85 x 40.00) - 5.00 =
    27.3

    As an archived-Voda#850/add-on s user I'll enjoy some 17.6 gig across 6 weeks /
Meanwhile, newcomers would still get a commendable 1,500 MB for their switch.

Could look about as effective as Super Saver's month to month.
provided 28 days do not cramp one's fixed <$ 75o/681min calls.

People get "infinite" texts instead, a direct relationship with a speedful 850 / 1800 MHz—plus w/ this, an expected always-on, KB-rounded proper session.

At this time with Wholesale collapsing multiple dealers 1.5Gb comes out looking almost sweet.
cf. "$1-a Day/40MB" which looks plain terrible.. .

    •t'$-Hotspot ntwk, come launch 2015 should help things. But meantime I suggest disaffected Amaysim users to get on with '$27.30/1800 MHz';

    •Seek out .6 /.5 Skype credit in supermarket - you'd get Untimed Countries back for [116.49@50%=] $58.245 pa-including mobiles. /nb: 4g cap 40 - Voda < 31.75% off.

    • thanks daver - now my head hurts.

  • How many vouchers can I buy and stack?

    • I guess, you just need to look at the validity of the vouchers

      • Any chance you know how long they are valid for? I still have $ in my Amaysim account, so it wouldn't make sense for me to buy the vouchers, if I have to redeem them right away, as I would forfeit my $, which are only valid until November. :(

        • +1

Just got vouchers and they are valid until 5/8/2015. Worked well with the $5 off vouchers. Bought 2 vouchers, then went back and bought 2 more with $5 off. Nice deal!

        • My vouchers are valid until 5/8/2015 also.

As for the November expiry date on your credit, if you add additional funds it will extend the expiry date. I think there may be a minimum deposit amount of $15 [from memory] for this to apply.

So just prior to the November expiry date, deposit a further $15 and the expiry date of the entire amount of additional credit will be extended.

This has worked for me in the past.
