Can someone recommend some good quality thumbstick replacements for a 360 game controller. Or is it better to use cap covers and save the hassle of opening the controller?
Reason is that I purchased some cheap thumbstick replacements of ebay from Hong Kong and they didn't last very long. Covers just went mushy and get sticky after using for a while. So don't want the same thing to happen when I buy more replacement thumsticks or caps.

I can vouch for Kontrol Freaks. They clip over you existing thumbsticks( that is if the rubber isn't fully torn off)and they very durable. I've had mine on my PS3 for years and now I use them on my PS4 controller.
Never heard of these before. I assume these are the ones your talking about. If so there are many different designs and styles. Not sure what one would be best for general all round gaming.
I still have a few unused sets of the cheap Asian thumbsticks I can use If I ever decide to go for a pack of these. As the original ones have all warn down to the plastic on one side.

Shorter ones (0.30) are the all rounders, longer (0.45) are more attuned to FPS.
Personally I use a longer one on the right thumb stick and leave the left one normal. I find It to be more precise when playing FPS games and it's a lot more comfy all round.
Yeah, I tried it, found it odd and couldn't use it. I'm accurate enough with even sized sticks.
I have a set of Modsticks. They are somewhat pricey, but I believe that they would outlast your controller.
They are aluminium replacements, so you will need to take apart the controller.
However you can adjust the heights of both sticks.
You can also buy different grips if you wish
