New building - how long to wait for Internet?

I am moving I into a brand new building. Signed up with Exetel a week ago. They said it is still with Telstra. How long will this take? Exetel had no idea. Bit annoyed since I have to pay $299 connection fee since there has never been a phone connection.

How is it still with Telstra if you have never had a phone connection there?

Edit: Also, if you truly have never had a phone connection there, try iiNet. 24 month contract and that $299 goes down to $59

    • Cause they are the wholesaler and they have to come out and install something.

      • No, what I mean is this.
If it is with Telstra, then there is a phone line. Or do you mean "it is still with Telstra" as in "we are still waiting on Telstra"?

    • Won't be there 2 years and may not need fixed broadband at the next place.

      • if it is for copper, yeah you'll need to pay the $299 install fee.

there are SOME casual plans for telstra you might want to consider then if you aren't going to be there for 2 years. you'll need to pay a casual fee of $120 but then the plan becomes month by month.

  • if it's a brand new building, it should be connected on the NBN.

      • go to a telco shop and double check. that website is not 100%.

some telco shops have nbn specialists that have access to the nbn service co portal. theyll look up your address and provide you with a LOC id if nbn is in your area. it'll also tell you what service class it is (whether the telco tech can just come out and install or whether you need 2 appointments, one for nbn and one for your telco).

or just ask your building manager.

  • question doesn't even make sense.
