Log book Service

Hi Guys,
I have a doubt. I need to do the service of a used car that I bought. The car has all the services registered in the log book, and I'll like to keep it that way. I got 4 quotes with different prices for the same service.

  • Official Suzuki Dealer: $535 (NO WAY!)
  • Big multi brand dealer where the previous owner has it serviced before: $350
  • Midas: $330
  • Local Mechanic: $250

The question that I have is, is there any warranty on the log book services provided by a local mechanic?
In you opinion, do you think that the local guy will overlook something and get it done quick without quality?
I did the research on the local guy and the reviews online are quite good, but I am just worried he may not do all the work.
I am hearing recommendations, thoughts, experiences, etc.
Thanks
D.-

  • Local guy is a winner. (my mechanic recommends buying original parts during warranty-but does not force you to get them)

(parts made by other companies that fit your vehicle will come with their own warranty also)

  • It would depend on the age?

If its a car worth some coin ie $7500 and upwards I'd take it to the dealership.

I take my wifes car to the dealers all the time never had a problem and want it to stay that way, kids spend
a lot of time in wifes car. I also don't want to receive a phonecall with her stuck on the highway.

Anyways, the dealership often replaces parts as there have been safety issues/reports/faults etc, this is always free of charge. I have never in my 40 odd years of life had a mechanic say they've done this.

Maybe choose a smaller service for the dealer to check it, as $535 seems a major service, I'm pretty sure like most cars you should get a cheap service hopefully the next 10,000kms

  • If you believe that dealerships and big servicing organisations do all the stuff listed in the logbook, think again. They take lots of shortcuts. Find a place or a person (local mechanic) that comes highly recommended and stick with them. When it comes to looking after your car, word of mouth recommendations are gold. Good luck!

  • Thanks Guys!
I think I'll give it a go to the local guy!
    Cheers
