Hey folks,

Just noticed a Swype sale pop up in my feeds. As a long time user, I can highly recommend. Quite flexible, accurate and the backup/sync functions flawlessly between my multiple devices.

Enjoy!

  • I prefer fleksy. But for $1 people might as well try Swype out.

I prefer Google Keyboard. It is FREE.

    • swype or at least swipe-style keyboard input it amazingly quick. also extremely one hand friendly.
I personally think it is worth the money and would recommend it to others

note: from reading recent reviews, it seems it might be laggy now due to all the 'features' it's added.
not going to update mine since it was from beta days (which apparently was when it was at its best).

still be worth a try though if you are only used to finger tap typing imo

Google keyboard has "swype" as well.

        • +1

swyping capability is not the only benefit of this keyboard. I find this keyboard to be very good with its dictionary management and suggestion of words. Unmatched to anything else I have used (incl Google Keyboard). That being said, it has become very laggy of late. Hope they can fix it as I have moved out of that because of the lag. If it works lag free, I would switch to this in an instant.

        • +3

@rdhupar: left it because of the lag as well… after having my dictionaries deleted several times, my languages un-installed, contacting them for support on several occasions to NO avail what so ever, only complaining when I left a bad review on google play… cannot recommend it anymore, their service/quality has gone down very badly…

        • The latest update fixes a lot of the performance issues. Put it on both my Tablet and my Phone and works a treat like before. You should give it another go.

        • +2

Yes, but the Google Keyboard does not have intelligent word lookups and cloud based user dictionaries to sync multiple devices. Swype has a commonly used word database and includes trending and new words that are often quite surprising. Not only that, it also includes Dragon Speech input as well that is probably a tad better than Google's own voice recognition since it will search with the new and trending words.

woohoo .. something to use my google survey credits on! :D

    • +3

i've got like $8 in google credits :D

ive made over #30 dollars on surveys.
        trick is to lie
whatever it is you use it or buy it or do it.
telling the truth gets you no surveys i told the truth once and i went weeks without surveys never again lol

      • Same… no idea what to spend it on.

Don't need Swype; GOogle Keyboard is good enough, and has a swipe feature.

        • +1

I lay clash of clans so when i built up enough money i buy in game gems
might be wastefull but ive already got every app that i want or need.
this time around i want modern combat 5 though for 7 dollars

Wasn't this made a freeware app recently or I am mixing up with another keyboard app?

EDIT: I think I was thinking of swiftkey

    • This used to be a "public beta" thing, where you could sign up and use it free.
I think they used to only make money by selling it to phone manufacturers to bundle it with their phones.

I loved this app. Then I stopped loving it after so many "upgrades" achieved nothing other than slowing my device(s) down to a crawl. Google Keyboard gets me over the line nowadays.

    • +1

      Try disabling "Smart Editor".
I was devastated when it started slowing down and tried a few other keyboards, but I didn't like any of them as much as Swype. After disabling this new feature it returned to its former glory :)

      • I did all that, also uninstalled and reinstalled. Still trying to find an old apk I can install on my S4.

        • +1

I might have an old backup at home, I definitely have an old apk of the public beta (back from when they had an AU dictionary).
If you trust me I can send it to you, do you have PM enabled on ozb?

        • @legiong: Thanks for that.
I just checked, PM's are enabled. I will say that I did find one old one, but my screen resolution on the S4 meant that the keyboard shrank to half the width of the screen. So I abandoned it pretty quickly. cheers

  • WTF… I bought this last week!!!

    • $3, definitely a What the !@#$ moment to ruin your entire day.

  • Flirting with danger I know, but is there a similar iOS app? Saw an adroid user with this the other day, surely there is?

  • I am assuming this is the same as the swipe style keyboard tats standard on Sony phones. I see my son using it really quickly but I just can't get the hang of it.

    • it comes with a handy tutorial. takes practice but if you know a QWERTY keyboard layout off by heart, it gets much faster very quickly.

  • Does Swype lag? I only use Google keyboard because there's no lag.

    • Only lags occasionally when I have written a lot or gone backwards and corrected mistakes, it becomes unusable then. Has anyone ever backed up their words successfully and transferred them to another device. And if so, HOW?? thanks

      • Titanium Backup. (Root needed)

        • Thanks, but without a root?

  • I prefer

Has anyone converted to Swype from Google Keyboard or Swiftkey? I used to be a stalwart GK fan but decided to try out Swift and absolutely love the tablet option on my Nexus 7. It definitely lags more than GK though. How does Swype compare?

    • +1

      Google play has reviews

      • Unfortunately it doesn't for my tab

    • I changed from Swype to Swiftkey about a month back because Swype was not sticking as the default keyboard. Change over was pretty seamless for me as I never use the actual swype style input

      • If you don't use the swipe method to type, you should try Fleksy.

See my comment below, but I've just fine back to Swype after a hiatus. In between I used a bunch of others, mostly Swiftkey. I find the accuracy of Swype way better.

    • I had hundreds of words in Swype and thought I would give Swiftkey a try. When I went back to Swype all my words were gone. Not happy Jan.

  • i hate the others ive tried but love Swype, its so awesome

  • +1

I found swype got way too bloated. When it first came out it was the best thing since sliced bananas, but now they've overdone it. Google keyboard is where it's at now.

  • +2

I've no issues with Google's Swipe keyboard… why would others have the need to buy this Swipe?

    • Because they prefer it…similar kind of reasoning as to why everyone doesn't own the same phone. I was happy with the Google keyboard until I tried Swype.

    • I have been a long time Swype user since 2010. My reasons:

      • Familiarity
      • Better current word prediction. Not touch-typing speed / dictating speed, but I can usually sit through a presentation taking down notes with just Swype.
      • Better next word prediction. It learns from your previous patterns, so often you swipe one word and tap the next.
      • Long-press symbols. Not sure why Google Keyboard only has 0-9 on the row of Q-P. I prefer being able to key-in all the punctuation marks and symbols with long-press rather than switching modes.
      • More language support, especially Asian languages.

    Wooohooo! Thank you!!!
I used to use Swype when it was beta. Mostly been using Swiftkey for the last couple of years. Not really sure why, because it's been driving me insane with it's lack of accuracy and poor word choices.
I've also tried Fleksy, the default Google keyboard, Samsung and Kii. None of them have compared to the accuracy of Swype.
I've just installed it and an using it now to write this. The benefits of Swype are awesome. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4 and an but having any of the speed issues that others have mentioned. It's fast! And using the new gestures is simply awesome. LOVE IT! THANK YOU.

  • When I tried out Flex T9, it was AMAZING. Was using it for ages until it started crashing on my updated GS3. Now that I used a bit of my $12 of survey credits, I feel a lot better because Nuance bought out Swype so this is effectively the Flex T9 now. Better than google keyboard because it learns from what you type, you don't need to manually input each word in the dictionary. Furthermore, accuracy with this keyboard is the highest.
