  • no online sales .. atleast we would have booked it …. too bad.

I guess they need some customers lol

  • as nice as this offer is, the lines on that particular day would be so long i'd give it a pass :(

    • Have a look at the voucher that was in my local Leader newspaper. Not sure that a printout can be used but it could also be in your local newspaper if you are in Melbourne. The expiry for that is 5 October. Checkout voucher

This thing is an embarrassment compared to London or Singapore.
Much smaller and really looks like a third rate, pissweak "me-too" copy.
Lots of original people in Melbs. Why do we have this P.O.S.?

  • It isn't that bad….acting like it affects you personally that this exists in Melbourne lol

    • Yes, I have some pride in my town and this is a fugly pissweak eyesore. I am embarrassed to drive past it with international guests. Makes us look small time.

Have to agree, this is an embarrassment. It's like a mini version of the London Eye and the fact it took 5 years to fix it, don't get me started.

Plus it costs more than going on the Eye.

      • Melbourne is small time. Seriously Melbourne is not on the international map so no point in comparing it to the likes of London.

So you think we should actively pursue pissweak tourist attractions because we are not as big as London? Lol.
Some people seem to think well of us…

Most of the good stuff is cryptically hidden.. might be a bit hard to understand if you're from Sydney.

        • @King Tightarse: I never said that. All I'm suggesting is that a comparison between Melbourne and London doesn't make sense as they're not on equal footing/popularity on the international scale. You're comparing apples and oranges with the same level of expectations.

Yes Melbourne should aim high, but if all it's good stuff is cryptically hidden then it suggests that they don't care about being big and popular on a global scale like London.

        • @Trishool:
You have fundamentally missed my point, which was that here is no point in Melbourne doing a lame version of a city Ferris Wheel as a tourist attraction when it has been done "properly" by London and.Singapore. Not a comparison in size or world recognition between the cities.
I also don't agree with your assertion that Melbourne is not popular on a global scale. Did you happen to look at that kinky?
Oh what was that? The friendliest and most livable city in the world . That's right. Numero uno.
I have been to London on many occasions. My opinion? It's lost its mojo. Nearly unrecognizable compared to 20 years ago. It what sense? In terms of it's own culture. Rampant development and uncontrolled immigration have caused culturally significant areas to be swamped and dispersed. East end culture for example= over. Perhaps it's due to the so called borderless Europe.
Once you tick off the tourist checkpoints, London now has all the charm of an airport terminal.
Get ready for the Asian century and the world's friendliest, most livable city is right in the box seat. London is over

    • it does when it's public money that has paid for it.
Politicians love building this crap- makes them feel big and important on the news cutting ribbons.

I look forward to the next round of white elephant announcements prior to the upcoming state election from both sides of politics.

Except no public money has gone to fund this, it's an entirely private enterprise.
That being said, it was a silly idea from the start, and given the low attendance figures I'm not expecting it to be operational for that long.

I shall proceed to directing my outrage toward a cloud in the future.

Is there a reason why this ferris wheel advertises on tv but doesn't actually show the views from the actual pod? That itself rings alarm bells.

Knowing the area, this is a great ride for the container ship and warehouse rooftop spotters in us.

    • +3

Because the views are of the ass-end of Melbourne… Taking in the beautiful views of the docks and Foot-a-scray

The best view of that wheel is from the outside at night, looking at it from the concourse at north Melbourne station or citylink. The light show is pretty damn good.
