Low cost Protein solutions

So I have just entered the 'working out' world and I am look for some cost effective ways to get the most out of my work out, before and after.

So a good protein supplement or meal to have after working out that is also quite cheap

Being on a student budget some of this stuff is hugely expensive

I'm reallllly new to this so if I sounds silly or made a mistake please go easy on me! :)

Just look to hear what other ozbargainers do :)

  • Cottage cheese. Smother it on everything. Eat it out of the tub. Mix it in with salads or veggies or into sauces. Get some sweet chili sauce mixed in if you aren't a big fan of the taste and want to eat it by itself (it's not cheesy though, it's creamy deliciousness). Go the lite versions if that suits your needs, too. mmm protein.

Woolies, Aldi and Coles have their own 'home brand' versions.

  • Eggs. Youghurt. Cheese. Nuts. Cottage cheese as mentioned above. Protein can be got for cheap. Overhyped protien supplements will set you many dollars back though. Stick with the cheap and good if on a budget.

  • Natural source of protein is always good option, but is comes along with other nutrients including fat, carbohydrate, etc.

Since you are on a budget, important thing to consider is cost per gram of protein.

I have been buying protein supplements (WPC) from venomprotein.com.au. Mixes well with water. Comes in many flavors as well. Before buying in bulk you can also get "Venom Flavour Samples -10 flavours x 40g samples" for $20.

  • Lentils, chickpeas, nuts.

    • Tuna, chicken, eggs, beef too.

One would need to be busting their gut on a very regular basis to require more protein than what a good diet can provide.

  • How about this place?

Seems like a very good price for Protein.

  • Is cottage cheese OK to eat during the day, or is it best to eat before bed? :|
