waste of time and money. shipping costs for 50.00 item at 2k is about 40.00 to Australia. This is a waste, I can ship it myself to Australia for that without using a US address.

Ummm what are you talking about? This is meant to be used on sellers that don't ship to Australian address…

    I used these guys twice.

Both times I suspect that they repacked my stuff into much larger boxes than necessary to increase their profits.

At the very least they should have given me an option to repack for a fee, but I think they make more profit on inflating the shipping charges than they do on repacking fees and actually being good to their customers.

    • used these guys 5-6 times.repack option has saved me $$S.They have always repacked(where possible) stuff into smaller boxes and they also tell you the difference before/after repack.Maybe you are referring to the "volumetric weight" they consider when handling large(and light) items.

      • -1

        yep. i know the difference.

here's what they charged me for a tshirt (weight was less than 200g including the 3 layers of packaging it was already in). they could have easily put this in an envelope, but instead packed it into a much larger box than was necessary (and charged me $5 for it)

        Total Chargeable Weight (kg): 1.00
        International Shipping Charges: 25.20
        Repack Fee / Re-assessment Fee: 5.00
        Fuel Surcharge: 3.78
Mandatory Insurance: (Declared Value & Shipping at 0.65%) 0.34

        Total $34.32

both of my experiences with them were like this.

customers need to be aware that hopshopgo use volumetric weight, they round up, and they make more money when they repack inefficiently (there is no incentive for them to save you money)

by comparison, someone like priceusa would charge $14.70 for this service.

        • So you ignore the fact that they charge a minimum weight right? " As per industry practice, shipping charges are made up to the first half kilogram, which is a flat fee. A charge applies for every additional half kilogram thereafter. " Also, even in Australia whenever i buy T-shirts the declared weight on the pack has never been under 500 gr. Check it out next time ;)
P.s just checked rates at Priceusa: for a 200gr pack/ envelope(i highly doubt they will charge you only 200 gr for the t-shirt) they charge 14.7 USD viafirst class mail(16-21 days) and 34.48 USD via ups

yep. they could have easily sent a tshirt for 500g. it could have been safely packed so it was much less than that, both by weight and by volume.

instead, they put it in a box that was larger than necessary. this has happened to me twice. i can only assume they do this because this is how they increase their profits. there is an incentive for them to pack inefficiently, and little incentive for them to save their customers money.

USPS will charge based on weight down to the nearest 1 or 2 ounces. ie. a 85 gram international parcel will be slightly more expensive then a 56 gram international parcel, etc. USPS first class internation is great, especially considering how cheap it is. always gets to me in 2 weeks and comes with a basic tracking number.

UPS and FEDEX suck too. i wouldn't pay extra for them if i had the choice. they actually make normal post look good by comparison.

    • I disagree! I have always had good outcome with UPS and Fedex. Last parcel sent on a Monday evening(AU time) and arrived Thursday morning. i always use them for "big" or multiple purchases and I'm happy with them. Even on my last DSE eneloop purchase the declared weight was 1kg so i repeat i higly doubt they would declare 200gr for a t shirt. Also keep in mind that every additional 1/2 kg is 4.80 USD express or 4 USD for standard delivery, so I wouldn't complain if for a $400 order(more than 30 items, baby clothing that would cost me $$$ here) i pay an extra $5 to HSG.

  • Extremely happy with them handling my Oneplus One.

It arrived at their facility on the 14th and I received it on the 19th. Will use again and highly recommend.

  • i've explained how they have the motivation and opportunity to rip people off. it's happened to me twice.

charging me $5 to repackage a 200g tshirt into a box with a 1kg volume is ripping me off. it came in an envelope from the retailer. the only reason for them to repackage it into a big box is to increase their profit.

if you buy from somewhere like priceusa, they will use the actual weight. a 200g tshirt including packaging will go as 200g.

i'm not doubting that most people have a good experience with hopshopgo, but it would probably be safer to go with a company that can offer a choice of non-volumetric shipping options.

    • here is where you are wrong! A 2 minute google search shows that priceusa has been giving wrong shipping cost estimates and then asking for more money due to the volumetric weight. Just look it up on Whirlpool. I personally haven't used priceusa yet and I have nothing against the company. I'm sure that every company has happy and sad customers but you can not generalise by saying HSG rips people off and priceUsa not !

  • I tried to use this before - but couldn't get a good idea of the price before I handed over my payment details… Do they give a shipping estimate when you agree to the service these days?
