1st Juicer - Any Suggestions?

Hi all,

Looking to get into juicing and wondering can anyone advise on any good juicers at a reasonable price?

Thanks!

I've got a Optimum 400 juicer (cold press) and have no complaints. It's comparative to the Hurom juicers. They've release two new models since I bought this juicer (at the beginning of the year) which appear to cater for bigger pieces (less chopping) for extra $$$.

Advice: don't do what I did!
[ie got a really good juicer, used it every day for a week, once a week for a month, and then never. It now sits out on the counter collecting dust and making me feel guilty.]

I went for a Hurom 400 about two/three years back, it was the best value one I could find. Cold press with the rotating thing. It's pretty good, easy to use, easy to clean, no complaints. Other than the fact that I'm too lazy to use it these days, but that's not the juicer's fault.

You have your two types of juicers:

Centrifugal i.e Slices & dices with blades at a very high speed. Cheaper & generally quicker than your more expensive models. Downside? The pulp will be a lot more watery and a significant loss in nutrients.

Cold Pressed Juicers – Slowly compresses & squeezes out every last drop of goodness. A decent model will provide dry pulp with superior taste & more nutrients.

Even though it goes gets my better judgement, I would personally suggest of starting out with a centrifugal juicer e.g. Breville fountain (Plenty on Ebay/Gumtree). Cheap, quick & easy. You will still receive plenty of nutrients & will be a good base to start from to see if you can incorporate juicing into your lifestyle.

If you do, then in time upgrade to a cold pressed juicer, preferably one with low RPM & a large funnel, which makes the world of difference. I’m personally eyeing up the Kuvings whole food one :)

    Enjoy!
