So I just came across this story on news.com.au
It occurs to me - as a typical Ozbargainer - that surely Malaysia Air would be better off offering those commissions to travellers by way of discounted fares.
So, my question is - how cheap would the tickets have to be to get you to fly with Malaysia Airlines?

how are you getting ripped double though? Commission comes from the airline, not added on top of your ticket price. You're still paying the same price, or maybe lower.
How about they reduce the price and pay they agent the same as before? You are getting ripped, it's just hidden.
This strategy is simply about getting agents to talk (pressure) flyers around to Malaysian one on one.
No, this gives the agents room to offer more attractive packages
Wow - the clear majority of people are saying that they wouldn't fly Malaysian if the were HALF the price of other comparable airlines!?!
I am surprised but you know maybe they are right when they say, if you lose one aeroplane its bad luck, if you lose two its carelessness. I think they were unlucky and especially unlucky that the two happened so close together.
For the record I went with 30%Or that they've done something very very naughty and they got caught…
Wouldn't fly MA if they were giving away seats.
Discounts might put more bums on seats, but they are hoping that direct sales pressure from agents will result in more. Travel agents will be all over this opportunity to double their income.
Knowing this will make me less likely to fly their airline. Knowing that you are now getting ripped double will do that.
