Let me preface this by saying i'm a car enthusiast, i drive a V8 6 spd manual sedan that gets horrible mileage but is fast as all hell… but i get paid per kilometer so basically I want to enjoy my driving rather than suffer a small car.
I was doing some sums and I kinda think that I'd be better off with a new car as I need one for work and I can deduct costs.
Ok here we go:
2014 Kia Rio MY14 UB 6 speed manual two door hatch
$13,000 on road (usually from $12,500 - $13,500)
5yr warranty, 3yr onroad assist and 3yr capped servicing
so going on $13,000 divided by 5yrs that's $2,600 a year
say $340 for rego, $600 for green slip, $700 for insurance
not bad going?
after 5yrs you can sell it off for say 33% value and try this on again with the 2019 model Kia
of course, its manual so you cant be lame and its 2 doors only but I suppose you could pay the $1,000 extra for 4 doors however I wouldnt pay $2,000 for auto since its a 4 spd which is rubbish and its 1.4 which means its not fast
pretty decent no?
i dont see much other options in this price range as it gets up to around $17,000 and the value proposition ends ie. you may as well get a C segment like a Corolla, Focus, Cruze etc.
I have a kia and I purchased it because of the 5 year warranty. I plan to sell at 4 years as the 1 year warranty will be a good selling point.
The capped service doesn't mean free service, and I've also heard some dramas in regards to these capped services.
