COTD "Pressure Cooker" Sale - ASUS Eee PC / GHD Hair Straightener for $199 + Others

3128

Hi guys, COTD is having another sale similar to a baitathon, this time called a Pressure Cooker (very appropriate name :P) Its on midday 25th of August, at the moment there are two items: GHD limtited edition straightener at $199, and an Asus EEE PC at $199. I'm not sure which model it is as it doesn't state, but I believe that is still pretty cheap.

Keen to see what other items they are going to have, and how the servers will go this time. Not an offer for the faint hearted!

Modedited title, added expiry date, corrected category and edited description.

that is for a company that went into receivership, obviously Nintendo (wii) fails within 12 months they will repair/replace it and GHD isn't exactly going anywhere fast!

    • +1

Thats a fault with Pebble Electronics not honoring they warranty as they went bankrupt, COTD only has to honor the DOA other than that it goes back to the Manufacturer.

      • +1

I think Consumer Affairs Vic told me, if the manufacturer goes bust etc, and the retailer refuses to honour the warranty, I can still approach Consumer Affairs and they may/probably will ask the retailer to make good on the claim.

Assuming the retailer is in Victoria … otherwise probably per the laws of the state or country where the retailer is … which my mean approaching consumer affairs in a different state.

    • -1

There is nothing wrong with the thread you linked to.

COTD does not offer the warranty themselves, that is wy it is called a "manufacturer warranty"
If they sell something and the manufacturer goes bust there is nothing COTD can do.

  • Crap. I wanted this for the Missus too :-(
    Getting the server busy page.

  • Hm random $3.95 cuddlee +$4.95 shipping…maybe I should get one for my bro so he'll look like a mage. XD Naaah.

  • +1

good to see some tossers have thrown their hair straighteners on eBay already, copied the COTD listing and all. heh.

    • I didnt buy one, i just suggested it

      • ahh nah, have a look, 10 day listing just appeared with the copy/paste from COTD hehe

  • Twitter says the straighteners are out but COTD only has the Cuddlee listed.

I take it that means they are all sold out?

    • the straighteners are sold out.
The cuddlees for kids are still available.

  • Up Next on Pressure Cooker - 'Temptation' Interactive Family Game. $4.95.

  • Big ticket items are done for a while again I think.

  • Still getting Crash of the Day..is it really the Temptation game??

  • -3

I HEARD it WAS the Wii's!

  • I can't even get the page to load atm

  • its the temptation game

  • its the Temptation Interactive Family Game
Includes DVD, 3 Hand Buzzers & Scoresheet!

  • I WANT the WII already. Actually i'd settle for the site loading :(

  • I don't understand why people are surprised they're missing out on the catches. The odds were always heavily stacked against them.

According to this site: http://www.valuatemysite.com/www.catchoftheday.com.au, COTD gets 250,000 hits per day. I'm guessing it'll be higher on a day when they have big ticket items instead of blankets and trivia games.

If you read some forum threads about COTD the last time they had a big ticket sale, you'll see some posters had prepared days in advance and rigged up like 5 or 10 computers to automatically refresh and snag the bargains - these are IT pro's who know what they're doing.

So assuming the comp experts manage to snag a big portion of the, what was it, 200 GHD stylers available, that's a very small number of stylers to go around thousands of buyers.

Waste of time from a buyer's point of view really, but fantastic for COTD - they get heaps of advertising and publicity from all of this, and pay bugger all for it.

    • Good post pretty much summed up why they go so quick and why they crash

  • severs are now stable

  • +5

I had everything put in for the GHD for the missus and as soon as I click confirm order, I get the unavailable. I kept trying for a good 10 mins to get back on but no success. Pretty shit server if it disconnects a connection on the confirmation page.

    • Yeah, I just wish their servers were intelligent enough that once you've managed to load the page and gotten a sale started with them, it would remember you and allow you to complete the transaction. That would go a long way to making people happy, in spite of the server load problems.

    I just want a DS!

  • Hhaha. Good luck little chance the servers will keep up.

  • +1

COTD should set a new rule!! Orders will be locked once a user clicks on "Bite me". If he/she doesnt pay or confirm the order, they will be charged 10% of the total price for the item as penalty. Just a suggestion. =)

    • +1

      agreed

    • +1

      Yeah I'm sure that's legal!

    • Charge to what? you only enter the payment details on the 3rd screen - I think once you put your credit card details or paypal and hit next, it should be confirmed.

I have lost deals in the confirm payment screen when it took more than a min at the confirm payment that returned error.

  • Good idea but there can be a few downsides to that. Some people may click bite me by accident ect. It should be once you click checkout :)

    • either way, they should have pre-cautions to prevent the "line" from snapping whilst we're reeling in our "CATCH"!

      • +2

Well maybe they should implement a timeout rule with their connections. Ticketek runs perfectly as it gives you a 10 minute direct connection. Then again, it seems COTD is a big company with a yumcha philosophy.

  • Up Next: 20 Piece Jewelery/Fashion Accessory Pack. $9.95.

    • I reckon after this accessory pack will be a big ticket item, it went asus eee pc (big item), then 2 lame items, then the styler (big item), now we have had two lame ones so is about time for a big ticket item.

      Hopefully the Wii!

      • I hope not, I'm on the train from 5:15 -> 7:30 :P c'mon wii at 8

  • Stuff for 4 year olds :|

    • +1

      Yes indeed :)

Disappointing for some I know, but not too bad for those of us with young kids. I've snaffled the kids blankets and the jewelry and I really don't think I can go too far wrong. Who knows, maybe my wife will even like some of the jewelry.

I know it's perverse but now that I know what to expect I really quite enjoy these COTD sales.

Oddly I think the whole sale would lose appeal if the servers didn't go down :)

      • Haha well said!

  • I saw this advertised in today's West Australian newspaper. Better chance of winning lotto than getting a Wii or GHD.

    • Perfect..

  • @QQQ Why is it you are accepting new registrations, when you stated registrations will close at midday?

  • Lol I saw the COTD billboard off Punt Road today.

  • I don't think they make any profit off the big catches. They hope impulse buyers will run in and buy the junk.

    • I remember the first time they sold 10 wii's (or whatever it was…) they bought them from Big W.

      • +4

Off topic, but reminds me of the time years ago when i chose a mobile plan where i got a free PlayStation 2. after i'd signed all the docos, the guy told me to come back in half an hour to collect everything, so i went for a walk.

During the walk, I saw the bloke at the nearby Target…standing at the register paying for a PS2.

  • "Up Next on Pressure Cooker: Canon 8MP Digital Camera - IXUS 80 IS. $189."

    • Cheaper then usual, but not a massive bargain

  • hmmm adidas training top :S
