Free GPS iOS/Android App for Use in the US

Hi, I am planning on going to USA and will be doing a fair bit of driving. Can anyone recommend a GPS app that does not require an internet connection to work? I know google maps has an offline map functionality but I would prefer something similar to TomTom but for free.

    Navfree USA? I used the Spanish one 2 years ago and it worked well about 95% of the time. You load up the appropriate country map to your phone and you don't need local data when using the GPS.

    The best offline gps app would be Sygic. We use the aussie map on it and cannot fault it… works just like a full featured regular gps.
