I’ve been looking for a item only released in the United Kingdom. Amazon.co.uk won’t ship to Australia. I did find it on eBay, but I also found it cheaper on FishPond.com.au, Shipping from UK supplier.
With a little research on here, I see some have had issues with fishpond. I was hoping to get more opinions on fishpond. Has anyone ordered something from their UK supplier before? Particularly I’m wonder if they send out a shipping notification once the items is dispatched.
I gave up ordering with them around 2012 or thereabouts, so my experiences might be a little out of date. For local things they're pretty quick with order dispatch updates but I've had only trouble with UK stocked items.
One item was purchased on the 30th of one month and I got no update until the 16th the following when they cancelled it for no stock. They then didn't refund me until I chased them up a couple of times over a fortnight, and throughout this period the same item was marked as available on their website.
If you have a chance I'd check out Booko which allows you to check the cost+shipping to oz from a large range of sellers. Otherwise Fishpond will eventually get to you provided you aren't in a hurry and can deal with a possible out of stock situation.
My friend just had her first book published and she is based in the UK. Fishpond has the best price for it, but it won't be sent until mid Sept. Reason for this is that the book is "printed on demand" or something like that… so it's not like they have it in stock and are able to send it immediately, even if they wanted to. This may or may not be the reason some of your orders have had a long delivery turnaround.
I have placed several orders from FP and many of them come from their UK warehouse.
Never had an issue, majority came within 1-2 weeks.
I recommend them highly, and do a lot of shopping with them.
I've always thought that Fishpond was just a shopfront for an Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk forwarding service do they actually have their own warehouse!
I ordered something last year, about 2 months before my daughters birthday.
The item was not delivered in time for her birthday party, nor was it anytime near her birthday.
I think it arrived about 3 months after her birthday. I almost gave up and was going to buy an alternative locally, but I couldnt buy that particular item in the correct colour!!!
Anyway, it eventually arrived and was okay. Just be prepared to wait a very long time.
It took half a year? It'd be quicker to go there in person to pick it up.
Wow I'm in almost the same situation with a b'day a little under 2 months away.
It is good for books, I have pretty bad experience for everything else since Fishpond might not know when they will ship the item or when they can expect a replenishment so you're left hanging especially if items are discounted
Are you sure Fishpond is your only option? I'm happy to do some detective work if you want to say what it is you're after :)
Well I said Fishpond seems to be the cheaper option. I'd feel guilty to have someone research for me. I am after the british release of the DVD box set of original 1980 Carl Sagan's Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. My research suggests that the british release is a region free release and its significantly cheaper than the American or Australian releases. I'm after 2 copies so I'm more sensitive to minor price differences. Thank you so much for the offer. Here's the amazon uk link

Booko can search for DVDs, and this seems the most relevant page. You'll note #2 is Amazon Canada, which is selling new stock of "Cosmos [Import anglais]" for CDN$ 19.83 + CDN$ 3.49 shipping, via "Rarewaves-CA", which Booko converts to $27.38 AUD ea shipped. This is cheaper than the ~$30AUD for Amazon UK and ~$43AUD for Amazon US, and the stock seems a little more certain than Fishpond.
Comments on the page seem to indicate it is Region 0, but some may have had region issues. Check the Amazon.ca page, but it seems you're on top of the detail about region codes for this title.

The book came out fine and I was satisfied with it. It took them about a month to ship it over though. It felt like ordering something from dealextreme.
I've ordered through them before, they stuffed up some of my order and it took about a week to get here, followed by another week of another order.
Ordered again from them - about 4 weeks (2 weeks of back order - even though product said in stock)
Anyone know what's up with fishpond website? Been trying to check something there the past 24 hours and the site has been down. I know I gave them the frowning of a lifetime for poor service, but I didn't mean to break their internets!
It's not terrible, but it's not great. I've ordered from them maybe 5 times. Of those times, 3 have turned up really quickly, and 2 have taken ages, but they do update you when it's been posted and you can track the order status on your account within the fishpond website.
If it's the only place you can get it, i'd go for it, but don't have high hopes of it arriving within 5 days or anything.
I've never not received my order though, if that helps.
