Ibis birds on roof problem :(

Hi ozb,

Ive moved into a government issued accomodation and have found I have a LOT of ynwanted room mates.

Every morning around 5-6am a squad of gang ibis' land on my roof to socialise, run around the roof and make a hell of a noise. Would anyone have suggestions what I could do to reclaim peace and quiet? Ill approach my housing contacts as a last resort.

Thanks :(

(I work shift hours otherwise i would welcome the alarm clock services they provide)

Throw a couple of rubber snakes on the roof?!

This guy has a roof snake you might be able to have: Link

We chase cockies away with a "Supersoaker" toy and it works quite well. If your roof is not too high you might give it a try. It won't hurt the birds but it annoys them enough to leave

    • I love how I can justify buying one now. haha

  • Do you have access to the roof?

    • This. If you can get up on the roof safely yourself, go out and buy some roof spikes to deter the birds.

      Google bird control spikes.

  • earplugs?

  • Ibis are like rats of the sky.. they crap everywhere and its illegal to kill them… so annoying if they make a nest near your building

  • We too also have an ibis problem. Came back home this afternoon and found a dead one inside my fence under hedge — 2nd one in a month. If their dropping stinks, more so their dead carcass. They have been nesting in my street on tall gum trees before I moved into the area 10 years ago, and they have really multiplied in recent years. There are at least 10 living on the gum tree right in front of my house. The young ones can't fly well and they often got killed on the road. The entire block got awful smell because of their droppings are all over the footpath. Council can't be bothered…

    Anything we can do?

    • Could this info sheet be any help? Despite it being for Ashfield Council, it looks like the info is applicable to any area.

Dead ibis in the yard does not sound very nice!

So you or your neighbours have already spoken to the council about it? Perhaps the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service could offer some advice or help like the pdf says, even if the birds aren't actually nesting on your property.

Good luck. We're lucky to only have ibises (ibii? lol) fly over our house.
