Another short Vodafail story

Bought a pre-paid vodafone Xperia M from DS.

Went online to vodafone website and paid for an unlock code. Unlock code didn't work (that is the only unlock code I ever tried). Called up customer support (a couple times), was told that sometimes their code doesn't work, and issue was elevated. I was then told to bring phone to a store to be sent of to vodafone for manual unlock.

Went to a vodafone store, sent the phone off, came back 2 weeks later, and ta da! still locked!

The store was going to get back to me on why it wasn't unlocked, and 1 week later, still no response.

I am sure vodafone is not all bad. But unfortunately, it is a fail experience for me.

Have wasted quite some time on phone calls, emails, and going to the store twice. Now probably just going to move on with life and simply avoid them in the future.

  • I've never really had a good experience with them.. Why did you pay an unlock fee? I got mine and my dad's done for free. And they shouldn't have to get it sent off to unlock your phone, you can always raise it with a higher power (ombudsman?), you can also post on their facebook, they don't like it when people do that and generally respond quite quickly, actually, their facebook is full of complaints! lol goodluck and I hope you get it all sorted, sounds like it's a small thing that's become quite a hassle for you :(

    • If the manufacturer unlock codes don't work the phone needs to be sent to the service centre to be unlocked.
The fee would of applied as the handset was originally a prepaid handset, all prepaid handsets have an unlock fee regardless of age.
Only post-paid handsets are free to unlock.

Get your fee refunded and try some of the independent unlockers They usually only charge a couple of $.

Voda know you only want to unlock their prepaid phone to use it on other networks so why would they go out of their way to help you do that?
