Has already started at Macarthur Central (Brisbane CBD).

Worth noting if you were activated on the old iPad offer (prior to July 1) you can still do $180 recharges.

I am also needing a iPad sim service if anybody has one spare (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/155319)

Might be a dumb question but can I use the recharge on an existing mobile broadband device or is it linked to the purchased sim?

    • +1

Not linked at all, feel free to not to use the sim.

      • Thanks. Telstra was $150 for 365 days about 12 months ago, now $200. 33% increase - wot the?

        • If you're talking about the iPad offer, It's been $180 for the last 2 years. It went up from $150 to $180 in June 2012.

        • It went up to $180 a few years ago if I remember correctly…. Both the iPad and Data + Cap

The new offer has cheaper rates for a few things but the most important change is credit no longer rolls over as it is a "bonus pack" rather than charged per $ like previously. If you are on the old offer you can stay on it.

        • My 365 day mobile broadband recharge was $150 in May or June last year.

  • I'm about to receive an ipad 4 with wifi + cellular…just trying to figure out the most economical way to get data. (it wouldn't be heavy use, maybe 1-2GB a month?)

I'm already on Telstra's Prepaid encore plan on my iphone and I've got heaps of "rolled over" credit that would be perfect for "Credit me2u", but as I understand, now the ipad plan is charged at $2/ MB?!

Is it best to just activate a new $30 starter kit as a normal "freedom" plan and put that in the ipad, because it allows you to buy data packs? and then just keep transferring credit me2u when necessary?

or is it best to activate an ipad sim with 3gb data? Though I'm assuming there's no point in transferring credit me2u with these new rates, unless you can buy data as packs with the ipad plan.

    Hope that makes sense. Cheers

    • The new "Freedom" plan actually does not allow the purchase of plus packs other than international data.

iPad sim w/3GB of data is activated on the new MBB ($2/MB) plan, as is a normal $30 starter kit.

    • I would consider the optus "my sim" plans for your mobile phone, can get a sim for ipad and share your data with it for a $5 once off cost.

  • Not really good deal because a $30 recharge save $3 and buying a SIM is $2 anyway, so you save $1…

Unless you do a big recharge like $60 or $100 still poor value.

    • But can you buy a few months of vouchers at the same time?

      • You probably could but 10% off is nothing. Unless you buy 6 months worth say $180 of recharge but you still only save $16, that's forking out $180 for something you haven't used or yet to use for coming 6 months!!!??

        Why you wanna do that?

        • still works out cheaper. I agree though its a risk.
the $180 deal is good though heaps of people will use that.
