Hi all,

Just received an email from Dicksmith with the above coupon code.

Brings the router down to $279 which is still expensive for a router but compared to the $349 you will pay elsewhere it is definitely a good deal.

Coupon code will also work on other products valued between $300-$500.

  • Still waiting on a special on the Asus RT-AC68U ;)

  • Excellent price, but gotta say although I used to be a fan of Netgear stuff I got turned off their consumer level kit some time ago due to firmware bugs and hardware failure. My basic rule of thumb now is if it comes with a Netgear badge and is made of plastic then avoid. If it's made of metal, then it's probably ok. Looking at the photos I see both plastic & metal so dunno. Hunting for reviews doesn't really show many promising ones (eg http://www.cnet.com/au/products/netgear-ac3200-nighthawk-x6-… and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdKMhbwBS7M, although granted I tend to treat cnet reviews with a grain of salt as well)

So, I'll be interested if people who buy this can let us know how it goes. I have an old Billion that is starting to show its age, so expect it's time to update…..

  • Not too many positive things to be heard about the R8000, and it has taken firmware updates to lighten the mood when it comes to the R7000.

Reviews are one thing but if you want to get an idea of how a (Netgear) device is faring just check out their forums and see what the early adopters have to say. So far it seems a few are dissatisfied and don't seem to be getting much support.

I got lucky with the WNDR3800 (totally flawless and hard to pass up at just over $100 - hello OW pricematch!) but I'm thinking ASUS is now the only real choice since Cisco sold Linksys to Belkin.

  • man the r7000 hasn't even been out for that long (start of the year) I bought one thinking latest and greatest, guess that's how fast IT moves… anyways… looked at this the only difference I could see is the faster AC 3200, all other specs look the same, and considering you would need a specialty card to take advantage of the additional speed, I don't think its really worth anything more than the r7000, specially the extra 100 bux in the price tag…
