It looks like AirAsia doesn't allow name changes anymore. Now what?

Continuation from: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/148898

I guess I waited too long to sell my tickets and now it looks like AirAsia refuses to do name changes for all destinations http://www.airasia.com/ask/template.do?id=217&name=Can+I+cha…

It doesn't look like there's many options left but to forfeit the tickets and cut my losses.

Any advice?

Try AirAsia and see what happens it's only just changed and you could try suggesting that, when you bought the tickets you were under the old rules, but you do need to have the person lined up to take over the tickets, in case they make an exception.

If that's not an option, the go on your own. Japan is a lovely place to visit and the people are courteous and accommodating. It's better than losing both tickets.

    • +1 for OP to still go alone. Japan with no travel buddy is still better than no Japan (and sitting at home still mending a broken heart AND losing all that money for nothing).

Go alone and get your ex to pay you for the other ticket - explain that names can't be changed so you can't sell it or even give it away.
He should see it as a reasonable request.

    • Idk if it's worth having to get back into contact with him?

        contact Tonka instead :)

So are we gonna bring this to AirAsia's attention ala Zacardy's ?

does your ex have common names? If he has girlfriend, approach the gf, maybe she likes to go and nags him to buy:p

  • Where's Tonka??

    • Late to the party. ;-)

I think you're missing the Call the Yakuza option…

suck it up and take the loss of a few hundred dollars, who really cares? for all this time you've wasted on this non-issue is surely worth more to you than stuffing around trying to scam airasia to do a name change or refund you.

in future pay full price / flexi tickets.

  • Air Asia stopped the name change to prevent sclapers from reselling promotional and lower cost tickets for a profit. While kimplode's situation might be sad, it is no different to my comment above of people booking tickets well ahead and turning them for a profit.

Actually since they would be both traveling at the same time, its probably an area where they could allow some leeway if the OP was traveling at the same time - only one name change, rather than changing two (scalpers wouldnt generally flight with clients)

Actually if the OP could get a friend to travel with her, and share the accommodation costs, she would probably be financially better off. Say 14 days of $50 per night there is $700 of savings less the $600 lost on the tickets, vs $700 flying on her own.

If nothing else. Claim back the taxes. It is an easy process and I have never had a problem getting taxes back from them for unused tickets. There is a small processing fee

OP, start looking at the phone books or google your ex name. Might find someone with exact name. Sell it to them half price
