Well…I've had a few shady experiences with Gumtree so I feel reluctant to post ads there anymore and I am not a big fan of Ebay at all so can anyone recommend a good place for me to sell a high priced item?
It's a vintage leather jacket. I'm thinking I could get $500 for it. Hipster style extraordinaire from my great aunt…if you've ever seen Beck's music video 'Loser' that's the jacket he's wearing. (I mean not MY jacket) but they're the exact same jacket. Which is funny because it's a women's jacket. But I guess he is kind of lanky. Oh anyway. So…I guess it's basically an Ebay type item but I don't want to sell it on Ebay. Any suggestions?
Where would you recommend selling a high priced item?

gumtree , cash sale , dont send to anyone.
Gumtree sucked for me, tried to sell a video card once and people kept trying to haggle.
Same item sold on ebay for 60% of original price in 2 days.
Realistically getting $500 for a second hand jacket is not likely.
definitely not gumtree, you'll get lowball offer like 50 bucks instead of $500
You should sell it to some hardcore Beck fangirls.
(joke though!.. but… potentially could work very well in your favour if it's the same exact jacket lol)
some type of beck fan forum?
Is it a well known brand ? Vintage won't increase the value unless it is a rare and sought after piece, so $500 is probably aiming too much.
You can try to sell it on various fashion forums. Try Sufu, Hypebeast, Vogue, AskAndyAboutClothes, Purseblog,Styleforum or even the fashion section of Whirlpool.
Vogue banned all selling on their forum quite a while back. Apparently some shady people took advantage. Shame, because it worked well for honest people.
For that price, i think ebay is best. Yes, i know you don't want to sell there, but they have high visibility and are worldwide, and as waterlogged turnip said, there could be hard core Beck fans worldwide willing to pay big bucks for it. Just make sure you send it via Registered mail (both local and international) so if there is a Paypal problem regarding delivery, then you're covered
I hate selling on Ebay now, they team up with paypal and double dip your profits and always on the buyers side.
My last experience just killed it for me. I sold an item stating that I will not be responsible for the item if they don't pay for registered post once it's sent, after 3weeks the buyer filed a complaint saying that the item was faulty. hmmm why after 3weeks, was working perfectly before I shipped.
registered post only covers for non delivery though. If buyers filed SNAD, regardless whether it is true or not, Ebay will rule in their favour
Post it on a facebook buy/swap/sell group.
