Need some help with an ebay dispute

Hi OzBargainers

Not sure if anyone can help with some advice here. I bought a powerbank from ebay with a seller in China for about $35, waited 5 weeks for it to arrive, at first it seemed to work but days later i noticed no power coming in after charging it so I reported it to the seller. They said perhaps the problems could be the USB charging cable to they offered to send me a new one. Waited another 5 weeks for the new one to arrive, still no luck so i contacted them again. This time they promised to give me a refund but i waited a week, nothing happened so emailed them again, now it's obvious they have stopped responding to my emails. Because of all the waiting time now it's past the 45 day window with PayPal and ebay so I cant even leave a negative feedback. I just opened a dispute case with PayPal but not sure if they will process it since it's outside the standard window. Seriously I will never buy anything from China ever again despite how unrealistic that may sound. Any ideas how i can get my refund back? Thanks all!

  • It's not about not buying anything from China.

It's about not buying cheap dodgy product on Ebay from Chinese source.

Even if Paypal rules in your favour (which I am sure they won't), you still have to cough up for the shipping cost back to China. It is costly and without a guarantee that the second shipment will function correctly.

Which is why Chinese Ebay-ers are more than happy to refund you for those $5 phone covers coz they know the cost of sending it back is more than $5

  • My issue was very similar but was purchased in Australia, I tried everything and then last resort was to speak to Paypal after trying to contact the seller also and no results.
Paypal advised that since it is over the 45 days it was actually 50 days they cannot help no matter what.
There suggestions as soon as any issues happen in the first instance to lodge a dispute no matter what.
If it doesn't resolve itself with the seller at least you have a dispute lodged already, and if it resolved well least you can just close it and think not much of it. Also i got a chance to leave negative feedback - wasn't much but made me feel a little better…

  • There's usually some history attached to unreliable sellers, so DO TAKE THE TIME, to read all their negative feedbacks before ordering anything. Chances are somebody before you had the very same problem with that seller……
I learned the hard way after buying a $20 toy from China. The toy was broken on delivery and the seller would not refund unless I returned the toy, which would have cost about $35 postage. I put the loss down to experience but the seller got a scathing negative feedback.

  • If you paid with a credit card you can raise a dispute with your credit card company up to 60 days I think. And you can leave feedback on eBay up to 60 days after the transaction.

  • it's basically too late :(, already past the 60 days window too. The price of a silly lesson i guess. The stupidity is mine but but seriously i hope karma gets them for selling all these faulty products and purposely dragging it out so long so i cant do anything about it.

  • Unfortunate. I've learned to not buy anything that exceeds $20 max from China from eBay. So I'm able to take the hit if it happens. Most of the time it's just stuff under 10 bucks.
