Haven't driven my car for six years

I went overseas six years ago and haven't driven one of my cars for 6 years. It is a 1983 Mazda 626. Is it any good to "revive" it so I can sell it or give it away?

    hmmm

    very stale fuel, varnished thickened

    gummed injectors

    flat tyres

brake, clutch, radiator fluid need flush, oil would have hardened etc.

the interior would be like an egyptian tomb in Indiana Jones

i'd personally tow it to a local mech and get them to change all fluids

then again its a '83 mazda… get someone to take it for scrap

+1. Depending on where you live, it's probably cheapest to either sell it as a paddock basher, or for scrap.

Had a look on carsales, 1990 323s are $1500… so basically peanuts.

I reckon it would cost you significantly more than the value of the car to revive it.

The smart thing to do would have been to sell it before you went overseas for 6 years. Been probably worth a good few dollars more six years ago.

About the same as a 1989 Mazda 626 now?

ok..perhaps a few good dollars rather than a good few dollars.

    • Thanks, Captain Hindsight

Might be worth looking in the wanted sections of classifieds. Occasionally you'll find people looking for them for parts.

You can sometimes find them on Gumtree if you wade through dozens of spammy ads for scrap buyers.

In fact, if your location is still SA, there is an ad from someone who wants a 70s era 323 for a project. More promisingly, they've said they'd be interested in other "old school RWD Mazdas", so you might have luck here.

    • these are fwd therefore worthless

Good to know about these being FWD. My general point about looking in the classifieds still stands.

    Contact a Vintage car club

    • Totally inappropriate comment I must say. Classic car club should be the primary choice.

"We got both kinds of music… country and western!"

  • classic car sale maybe?

If you're happy to give away, contact the Scout Association and ask them to circulate the car's details/availability/location.
Rover Crews have Mudbash/Bushbash and Venturers have Karkhana's.
Older cars usually much appreciated as its often a terminal trip for most cars

Wonderful idea. If you are disposing and they aren't interested, another good place to donate to is your local fire department or SES unit as the only way they can practice with some rescue tools is to cut apart an intact car.

Plus either get rid of it for you in the end.
Don't know about SES/Firies,as they are Government; but with the Scouts , "sell" it to them for $1. That way the actual ownership is never in doubt and you can easily and definitely prove innocence if the vehicle ends up being used illegally.
The buyer can also rest easy knowing you won't suddenly decide you want your "Loan/gift" back. Believe me, this second scenario has happened after a boat was restored by a Rover Crew.
