At rego renewal

My rego has expired for just over 2months and I'm trying to renew it, untill right before payment it mentioned that I need to get the pink or green slip and have the car checked at a mechanic. Does this mean the insurance will not also go through untill the first 2 are done?

The weird thing is if your rego has expired and you cannot drive the vehicle how can you possibly drive it to the service depo?

You can pay via online at ezyreg.com.au or you can alternatively download the ezyreg app in the App Store or the play store whichever device you have.

You will then get a receipt number which you'll need to record on the blue slip as stickers are no longer given

  • I did receive a letter from rta about the renew, told me to pay at rta.com.au but after the payment it said it need to get the green slip first.

While its all here, you may for safety sake get the 3rd party insurance before driving to get your green slip

NOTE the rego date doesnt change so you are paying for the lost 2 months. Alternative is to get a blue slip which costs more and is a more detailed inspection. Now depending on the age/condition this might be more risky in that it finds faults that need to be fixed which adds to your costs.

Your vehicle is unregistered if the registration is not renewed by the expiry date.

Registration can only be renewed up to three months after the expiry date. The new registration period starts from the date you make the payment, but the expiry date will remain the same.

To renew your expired registration, you will need to:

      Purchase a green slip.
      Pass a vehicle safety check.
      Renew your registration.

      REMEMBER:

Your expiry date will remain the same. For example, if your registration expires on 1 August, and you don't renew until 1 October, your next registration renewal will still be due on 1 August the following year.
Do not drive your car if your registration has expired. You will only be permitted to drive unregistered if:
You are getting a safety check.
You are driving to Roads and Maritime Services to renew the registration.
      Driving an unregistered vehicle:
          Is illegal and serious offence.
Can have significant legal and financial implications for the driver and last registered operator of the vehicle.
          Will void your insurance.
See driving unregistered vehicles for more information.

Before you can renew rego you need to get a Pink Slip (mechanic check) and green slip (CTP or Compulsory Third Party). You wont be able to renew the rego until you get these two done.

You can only drive an unregistered vehicle to get a pink slip done from the closest authorised safety check station and you need to travel by the most direct or convenient route.
