What discounts does it actually entitle you to? I'm not giving my details to be sent a random piece of plastic with no value?!

    • +4

What discounts does it actually entitle you to?

I don't think it entitles you to anything, you just get a card to put in your wallet.

  • -1

If you go to our web-site and enter your travel details it will bring up a list of discounted prices. If you click BUY NOW there is an application process. You don't need to actually make an application.

However if you use this "random piece of plastic" with the discount code it will show you automatically the further discount and saving you receive.

Therefore it's an obligation free quote (you don't need to make an application) and using the discount code that we send to you - you can see the further saving on your travel insurance policy.

The saving would depend on which premium you wanted.

    • +1

what is this 'further discount' ?

    • +1

No details, no deal on OzBargain.

  • +3

How is this a bargain? insureandgo currently has a 20% promo, and TID has a 10% discount every day of the year.

Please give us some numbers. OzBargainers like numbers. Perhaps a 10 day trip to Bali for 1 person to start with.

  • -1

It's a further discount off the premium.

It would depend on where you're travelling to, etc and the premium you choose.

    • +4

what is this 'further discount' ?

      Give us some examples

  • Not sure if the word "bargain" was used. However if a policy costs you for example, $197 for a QBE Annual Policy (Excluding USA) and you used a discount code that you received in the post - it would give you a further saving of $23.25 and bring it down to $173.75

Just thought I would post this as it is a promotion we have and you're not obliged to anything - these days every penny saved is a bonus. Sorry for any confusion.

    • +2

      Oz"bargain" :)

  • +2

So it's just a worse way of providing a discount code in the hope that they will get a permanent advertisement spot in our wallets

    • Meh, pass…

  • +2

I understand bricks and mortar shop fronts having the need for discount cards, but wouldn't it be easier, and cheaper, just to supply us with a discount code that we could enter to apply a discount the same way that most companies do (inc TID or similar)?
This just seems like a bit of a grab for our details before you want to show your hand, or in this case pricing!!!

  • sigh I don't work on commission, I am not an owner, I just work here. Thought this would be a good thing to have.

It's quite disheartening to have such an onslaught within less than 30 minutes.

If anyone needs a Promotional Code they can just inbox me on here and I will give you one. I am not concerned about having a permanent advertisement spot in your wallets - just figured a further discount was better than nothing.

    • +3

If anyone needs a Promotional Code they can just inbox me

      Why an inbox?

You were able to provide a promo code here without an inbox https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/153101

    • +2

      Wait, hold on.

You post on here which is essentially free advertising for the company you work for, without explaining the offer or giving any examples… Your OP initially didn't even state that you "get a further discount on our already discounted policies", it just stated that you get a "discount card" without specifying what the discount is.

When someone asks how it's a bargain you state "Not sure if the word "bargain" was used".

And then you're surprised / disheartened to "have such an onslaught"?

      You obliviously don't get Ozbargain…

      • -4

Sorry I have only recently signed up to OzBargain and learning to ropes.

So possibly I don't get it and apologise - shame on me for trying to promote where I work. I have shamed myself and my family.

        • +3

Yes, you underestimated us, trying to fit your old style business model to this informed & digital community.

I regularly spend time in Japan & yes any self respecting businessman would genuinely feel great shame for showing no respect as you did & that they failed to do their research to understand the market they were entering.

Your excuses don't count, your sarcasm is purile, your lack of understanding & respect for this community is contemptible, you failed.

    • Thought this would be a good thing to have.

Not if we can get a better deal elsewhere…

If you can't disclose the prices, this is not a bargain…

      • Prices depend on the destination, duration and age of travelers. We act on behalf of four different travel insurers (we are an agent) so there's different options.

Can't really give you one set price. However did provide an example with the QBE Annual Policies.

Now that's me out for the day - off to service our Customers.

Have a wonderful positive energy afternoon all

        • You have certainly "serviced" us :-(
I'm totally serviced off with your business.

    • Your Org is clearly trying to gather data of some kind. Be it testing a marketing strategy or gathering personal data to mine and make presumptions on which demographics are likely to take offers or travel to certain destinations etc etc. Insurance companies are run by complex risk assessment algorithms. Rarely human interaction is needed with regular cases. More data. More accurate results. Voila

  • Snoop - I'm not the Marketing Department but I will kindly advise them of your suggestion. Thanks and have a good day

    • Understand, it's not you getting commission, or you personally. It's just that nowadays information is money… to someone! And although most of us may be willing to give an email address, phone numbers and home address details are like gold to marketers!

      • -1

As someone that constantly gets sales calls from India at home about my Telstra account (despite being on Do Not Call Register) , I understand and as a Consumer understand people being wary.

We do not collect phone numbers at all and are an online business - so we don't call or hassle people. Just posted this as an option for people. That's all. :)

        Take care

        • Why as an "online business" do you only tell us your discount in a posted plastic card that we need to provide our details to you to receive? My broker used to do the same thing decades ago, along with 'personal' birthday cards.

  • +1

Seems like a nice way to collect names and addresses. If we actually knew what discount was on offer it might be worth it. Otherwise, I'll just keep an eye out for actual publicised discount codes.

  • We are just a small company operating since 1999 with a small staff in Canberra and we take our Customer Service very seriously and I like to treat Customers as friends! So to be honest I can't sit here all day responding to each comment.

tightarse - some discount codes have expiry dates. Some don't.

Once again can't spend anymore time defending my post, hope you all have a great day and many safe and merry travels.

    • +1

I do not follow the logic of your company.

We are just a small company operating since 1999 with a small staff

So posting out discount cards simply adds work to your small workforce and adds cost to your small company. Versus typing in a discount code in OzBargain that will reach 10,000's instantly and for free.

some discount codes have expiry dates. Some don't.

So give us a base level discount code that doesn't expire, and a high level discount code that does. And post another deal when the high level discount code expires. A good excuse to get repeat exposures on OzB.

I hereby sign up to a discount card on behalf of OzB. Name: OzBargain. ABN: 26 144 073 772. You don't need to post the card to me… just type the card number here thanks.

  • Thanks - I really had a great laugh :-)

  • +1

Laughter is the best medicine Bruce. Have a good one

  • Hi Cameroonie,

Thanks for the post. I think you did a good job in explaining the offer and the value proposition.

    Have a nice day/afternoon.

    • +2

Thank you for the positive feedback. You have a wonderful afternoon also. :) Cam

      • Just registered.

Not too difficult to see the value proposition but we all have different intelligence level.

It's sad that some people can't even differentiate between "understanding" and "agreeing".

        • We've already agreed that your intelligence level is clearly far superior to ours… But have politely asked if you may please further explain to the rest of us, this 'value proposition' by your own understanding?

    • +3

I think you did a good job in explaining the offer and the value proposition.

Sorry, I feel quite stupid now, and clearly you get it… So please explain the actual offer on hand to the rest of us layman on OzB!!!

      • I think Gleung must be the local Ozbargain Psychic and Mindreader…

        • And you know what we do with them…

          This deal is not published.
Find out Your Future through a Professional Psychic Reading over The Phone or in Person Just $39 (SPAM)

  • Someone please advise me how to delete this promotion. It's not worth it. I am new to OzBargain and would like to remove this post.

    • -1

Don't delete, someone may take up the offer and get something out of it… While it still gives the rest of us something to do!!!

    • -1

It's a great case study in how not to list on OzBargain, so should stay.

You really should have spent at least a few hours understanding this community, what posts are popular, what ones fail, its guidelines for posting, it's expectations. If you fail that, expect the wrath of the community.

A bargain has to have demonstrable benefit - a defined discount amount etc, not just trust us, you'll find out when we get your details & send you our magical mystery discount card, and then you contact us for a quote.

You/your business wanted sales from us, so you need to understand us first. You can't dictate how we must act to fit in with your obviously non-digital business model.

I could have been a likely client, as I holiday overseas up to 9 months a year most years.

  • -3

    heh bullying

Cameroonie, please accept our apologies, people are wary of anything that isn't fully transparent.

Which can be good as dodgy advertisers have been run off, but it is nasty on sincere newbies.

    • +2

You speak for yourself, not on "our" behalf…Ignorance/apathy/stupidity won't be tolerated, least of all when they are asking for personal details.

If this is the level of sophistication & professionalism their marketing strategy reflects (given they sent a lily-livered dolt who alleges not to work in marketing!!) I shudder to imagine what their data security is like.

Why should any mercy be extended for someone unwilling to bother with a bit of background? It suggests that OzB was just one of several sites hastily joined & spammed with what is clearly not a bargain/deal/offer.

  • -5

:( It has really upset me this afternoon. Not to mention the inbox messages and insults. Not called for. But thanks for your message . I am trying not to be dodgy, am being sincere and am going to not respond ANYMORE.

Going to focus on Customers and positive people.

Not people that have too much time on their hands and needs "something to do"

Take care all and thansk again Baghern

    • Not to mention the inbox messages and insults.

Report these people to the mods!!!
There are rules on OzB against this sort of thing to try and keep the community… Let's say, civil!!!

  • +1

Post the codes and I would give you a +

    • You may use the code: STAR

      There ya go!

    • They've been promoting this for a long time! It also reminds us that paying for a Gold CC to get included travel insurance is much cheaper & may suit many.

I have never bought travel insurance & never needed it - and I travel overseas most of the year for many years.

    • It is a total of 25% off RRP - correct. :) Have a great weekend everyone!

  • +1

You may use the code: STAR
    There ya go!

The total discount would be 25% off RRP and we won't add you to a mailing list for marketing purposes for signing up on this page.

Thank you from the OzB community… That's pretty much all anyone needed to know, or wanted!
It's now up to the individual to jump on and get a quote through your site the same way they would any other!

  • Except it's not 25% off.

Tried multiple dates in 2015, single traveler (31), multiple combinations of destinations, largest discount using "STAR" was 10.75%

More deceit, or just another in a series of failures?

    • I thought the same thing on a test quote I did too, but it worked out correct if you subtract it from the RRP.
The quote initially came up as $100; after the STAR code applied it was $88.50; a saving of only 11.5%… But then I went back to first screen where you choose the provider and saw that it had $118 crossed out and $100 quote underneath; so it was a saving of 25% from the 'listed' RRP.
Whether or not the initial price is inflated, or if this was indeed a bargain isn't known to me as I didn't compare the quote to any other providers… as we have already have a 12 month policy with TID!

      • yep the ol' off rrp not usual price trick a la chemist warehouse :(
