How to watch English Premier League online?

What's the best value way to watch English Premier League (+ Champions League)?

Free online streaming is often unreliable - gets blocked or doesnt work most of the time (unless someone's got a really good site?)

Foxtel Play is too expensive $50 a month.

Premier League Pass is now AU$182 a season + needs a smart DNS ($50 a year)

Any better alternatives?

EDIT: correct me if i'm wrong, with EPL on demand, you dont get to choose the live games (of your team), no?

    • Was using this, but either getting crappy connection or none at all at times

        Try this.

$89/season. Quality on NBN is fine by all reports. I'd prefer to give my money to someone else, though. If you find something better, let me know!

I used eplondemand last season and the quality is good. $89 for a whole season is pretty cheap really

      • Nice, thanks for the feedback. I constantly waiver back and forth on whether I would get enough use out of it or not… might just jump in and see how it goes!

    • Trouble is the 4 live games/week are selected by them, cant' choose yourself
      correct me if I'm wrong

      • Live doesn't bother me, as I can't give up my weekend evenings regularly just to watch football :p

I'm only interested in the on demand aspect, which is how I consume all of my TV these days anyway (Hulu, Netflix and HBO)).

with the on demand videos you only get the ones they didn't show live. Sometimes they do some really stupid scheduling too ( 11pm game on demand next day, 3am game live)

        • @jumpo: ooof, that's a real bummer. Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.

    we never pay to watch

    http://www.coolsport.se/

use this watch everything live for years now

    • Thanks i'll try that when the season starts!

I always use eplondemand. However was toying with finding a mate and going halfies on foxtel play. You can share an account. Benefit would be broader sport selection but then I realised I only give a shite about football/ soccer (delete as appropriate) so $89 a season for me.

    • Nice. What connection speed and device have you used in the past? Quality of service alright? What's the on-demand replay service like?

Bugger it, I think I might just buy it this year.

      • I've renewed it for a few years now. Started out with ADSL 2+ (iiNet) which worked great, but now I'm using cable broadband with Optus and it's flawless. I've used iPad, laptops and my nexus 7 and all work well.

If you're unsure about your connection start out with just $5 for a week access and see how you go.

As for the service. You get 4 games a week live, they've gotten much better at capturing all the big games but on occasion you miss out. The replay shows with the game 'as live' or a 2 min highlight reel which is pretty poor to be honest. I watch BBC match of the day for my summary fix.

    • correct me if i'm wrong, with EPL on demand, you dont get to choose the live games (of your team), no?

and i'd be interested if you want to share Foxtel play! Can you do that?

  • Hello,

I'm on TPG, and download speeds can go up to 1.2MB/s but when watching live streams of EPL games via http://xn--2-wtbmbm.eu/ and http://premier-league-live.net/, it lags really bad till it's unwatchable. With EPL on Demand, does it lag at all?

  • Thought I'd bop back in here with some feedback. After using some of the less-than-legal-and-less-than-great-quality offerings in the past, I too have been looking for a way to watch some EPL this year. So I thought bugger it, I'll throw $90 at Fox and give the OnDemand thingo a go.

Quality is pretty good, I'd say 8/10 if you're familiar with torrentz ratings. The res is fine, but the bitrate is a tad low. It seems the highest settings is only ~3128kbps, which is a bummer as I have 80,000kbps to spend on such things (woo NBN). But there is no buffering and the audio quality isn't full of sibilance like the pirate streams. For those with slower connections speeds, the auto buffer/stream can go as low as ~400kpbs, which is macro blocky and a bit messy, but very serviceable in a window on your monitor. I'd be willing to bet it also buffers far far less than the pirate streams.

There are, of course, ads during the streams, in the same places and in the same quantity as you'd get on 'normal' Fox. It's a bummer, but it is what it is - pop your headphones off and watch something else during half time, I guess.

Having only signed up this weekend I haven't had a chance to spend much time with the OnDemand feature, but from the brief tinker I did have, it seems pretty great for a Monday or Tuesday morning catch up of results. After much mucking around I was able to view a stream on iPad, and it is more than fine. It also pushes up to ATV no worries at all.

So all in all, a positive enough experience so far. It could be better, absolutely, with the arbitrary restrictions on the demand service and the live games being completely outdated in 2014 (not Fox's fault, though), and my bandwidth not being optimally used.

  • Just find a friend who has foxtel who doesn't use the Go app

that's what I do.. got a mate who is not into EPL and I just login to his account to watch go on my ipad

  • AceStream + Wiziwig.tv (http://www.wiziwig.tv/competition.php?part=sports&discipline… for football) if you want HD. Look for the stream provider Bloodzeed. With good connection you can watch HD EPL on around 1-4 minutes delay for free.

Edit: AceStream is known to have uPNP vulnerabilities so this is not an option for everyone. Make sure your operating system and security software is up to date.

  • Even though it appears no one is reading this, I thought I'd throw in another option that comes highly regarded:

    http://www.premierleaguepass.com/

You'll need either a VPN or Hola Unblocker to access it (set to NZ), but this service provides more games live than Fox's EPLondemand. I haven't tried it, but will definitely look at it for next season. EPLondemand continues to be perfect for my consumption.

  • Anyone thought of iptv boxes?

  • Selling EPL league pass $55 fox sports account, I dont use it got carried away at start of season comment here or PM if interested

  • XBMC !!

  • I have been watching footy online for about 5 years now. Sopcast was great but it is unreliable, some days you will get perfect connection other days it will be choppy as hell. Also with Sopcast, it has a connection limit so you have to log in early for big games and if you d/c, you are out.

The last set of champ league games I started using Ace Stream and that was excellent. No drop outs and buffered very quickly. I will stick with this but any problems I will have to consider a paid option.

Sharing my experience here, hope it might help others with their choice..

Previously tried EPL On Demand by Foxsports for two seasons as it was the cheapest legal alternative. The stream quality for me was very average, they use variable bitrates so you either get (1) really good TV quality but chops and lags now and then, or (2) smooth playback but slightly pixelated streams. Perhaps if you have a good connection then you won't be affected as much, but be warned, check your stream before signing up!

However, my actual biggest gripe about EPL On Demand was the 4-match live restriction.
I'm a diehard supporter of one team, and it is extremely disappointing to check a schedule only to find out they are not showing the game for that week. For those games I end up searching high and low for a dodgy free stream. Trust me, over the course of a season this happens many times and it becomes hair-pullingly disappointing.

ANYWAY, I'm happy to report that I've since found the perfect provider: Premier League Pass premierleaguepass.com based in New Zealand. I've been subscribed for one season now and have to say they are really on top of their game!
The quality of their streams I feel are much better, hands down clearer and smoother compared to EPL On Demand.

You can tell straight up that they TRULY care about their subscribers.
You get emails of schedules and commentary, iOS and Android apps to watch games (which you can then cast to your TV - my fav feature with chromecast), and continuous updates and improvements to their service.
But the best of all is they show EVERY SINGLE MATCH LIVE AND ON DEMAND!
This means no more fumbling around at 3am trying to navigate your way around the free streams, and waking up every week knowing that a quality stream is there ready to go.

After trying Premier League Pass, EPL On Demand feels to me like a half-baked service.

Pay the extra, get a SmartDNS provider like Getflix so you can access and sign up for Premier League Pass!

    My 2 cents :)

    • I had PLP and I was signed up using their Philippines sub and Getflix set to NZ.. not a brilliant idea but it worked all last season right up until the last 2 games and I got the dreaded "sneaky user" email that most people get when they're found to be using it from Oz (google PLP sneaky user).

What country did you sign up with? NZ, Philippines or Taiwan?
And what method of payment did you use? Coz debit/credit cards with your Oz address on them are going to look a bit sus…

I'd definitely go back to PLP if I could avoid the ban.
I've family in NZ that could buy it on their card too and just pay the full whack and use Getflix… I reckon that might be the safest bet.

    Try these
    www.crichd.in
    www.cricfree.sx
    They're free and quite good.

  • Can anyone with the Fox EPL on demand service confirm if the review/preview shows are included?
ie Usually there is the Monday review show covering all of the action over the weekend

    • Yes, there's review video for a day and also highlights from each game. The highlights are quite short though (2-3 min)

      • Thanks Maki, appreciate the response :)

I've seen the (short!) game highlights videos but was keen to see the standard EPL Monday review show - I've cut the cord - cancelled Foxtel, so am missing the standard EPL Monday review show!

  • http://app.shafa.com/apk/woaishijiebei.html just click the green icon to download the apk for android devices.

  • I heard about Austarlian Optus channel broadcasting epl live. Hope it will work for you.

  • +1

If you don't want to become an Optus customer, and don't want to watch every game, but want more than the 1-2 minute highlight videos, what do you do?

I would like the option to watch a live game every now and then, plus have the official UK preview and review shows (just like those that were on Foxtel)

    edit - ok, so this looks promising;
