End of Financial Year Statements - Costs

Hi, I used to have a property managed by a real estate.

We recently sold the property. When we emailed them asking for the end of the financial year statements, they wanted us to pay them $33.00. We have been with them for over 10 years and was looking to use them again as I just bought another house. I think it is ridiculous they want to charge us for something like this. This was their replies,

Thank you for your email:

"I am sorry you feel that way. As you can appreciate, collating end of year statement for an entire 12 month period isn’t an easy task and charging for this service is something we decided to implement for clients whom we weren’t earning an income from. As these statements are not required to be issued at all we thought this was very fair.

However, if you are wanting us to manage the property you have just purchased for you, I would be happy to provide the statement at no charge once the Management Agreement has been signed?

Please let me know your thoughts on the matter.

    HSBC did this to us as well. My parents has been using HSBC for over a decade, have accounts in Singapore, Malaysia and HK, but only the Australian branch charges for financial records.

      I'd tell them that you will take your future business elsewhere.
      It should be a piece of cake for them to collate an end of year statement. I know none of the property managers i use would have a problem with providing this.

    I guess you are stuck if you think these agents are ok on other matters (which I guess you are after 10 years).

    You could play hardball, but it depends if you are prepared to move from them if they dont give in.

    I would be thanking them for their response and querying why they dont see the past 10 months (or whatever) of the past year and the 9 years of loyalty that you have shown to them, referring customers etc, are not seen by them as being profitable.

    my agent = free

    i asked on the phone and 5 mins later it was in my email

    surprised at this level of service

    i talked to them later and they said it was few clicks of the mouse and print to pdf, email, done

    also all charges at tax deductible

    Yeah that's what I thought.
    She's making it sound like such hard work/time consuming to come up with the statement.
    What a joke
