Asian soup spoons with bowl hook

Hi

I'm looking for some asian soup spoons with a little hook on the end so that it doesn't fall down into the bowl.

Something like this:

Does anyone know where the cheapest place to get them in Sydney is or online?

Thanks.

Check Daiso or one of those asian 2 dollar shops.

  • contact uri geller and ask him to bend some normal soup spoons.

  • Any Asian grocer.

  • I've tried daiso and they sell 1 spoon for $2.80 :(

Asian grocers don't seem to have one with hooks - they seem to mostly have the standard ceramic ones.

    • I've never seen or paid much attention to spoons but I wouldn't be surprised if $2.80 for one spoon is as good as it's gonna get.

Where abouts in Sydney are you? Try the wealth of Asian supermarkets in Cabramatta. Lots have a large range of homewares/kitchen stuff like that.

I've never seen or paid much attention to spoons…

The lack of general spoon-awareness and the specific neglect of issues relating to responsible spoon-ownership, are growing societal problems that really, ultimately, will impact us all.

Like a neglected third child in a family of four, but referenced to a cutlery draw.

      • Actually the ones at daiso that I've seen are just soup spoons made of metal (???). I've tried some Asian supermarkets at Bankstown and Eastwood already as well. It seems the common trend is that there's a small section with homewares at the back. I have seen the ceramic spoons for $1 each but no plastic ones with a small hook for the bowl, like at some Japanese restuarants.

          eBay then? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-4x-Japan-China-Japanese…

(ouch, nevermind, just saw the shipping cost! LOL)

Try Chatswood then? Check the store Japan City (there's one in Top Ryde too). Worth asking the staff at Japan City about what you're after too, as they might know where to get them if they don't sell them at that store.

If they're more a Jap thing, also consider this place: http://www.northbridgeplaza.com.au/Stores/Tokyo-Mart

BEST SHOP EVER! So much stuff direct from Japan that is hard to find anywhere else. They have a section at the back of the shop with homewares, kitchen stuff etc too… mini Daiso style. I was after a matcha bowl and they didn't have any, but one of the employees there was so helpful and offered a few other shop suggestions to try. Lovely little shop.

        • @waterlogged turnip: Thanks for the tips on Japanese places! I'll give at least one a try on the weekend.

I went trawling through the asian grocers in the city and they have every bowl imaginable but still not the spoons I'm after. I didn't think it'd be this hard when I see them in restaurant after restaurant!

        • @waterlogged turnip: I sincerely hope that among any other stuff on offer there, that they also sell 'Hello Kitty' branded products. If I've learned anything at all from the internet in the last few years, it's that Hello Kitty merch has become Japan's most important cultural export after Manga and sushi…

        • @Tas: I wouldn't really know… I was too distracted by their glorious booze section, tbh. Hic…

The staff may have been wearing Hello Kitty costumes but after that much sake, maybe don't take my word for it.

        • Halfway down the page. That has to be Panda Pee. Best to avoid that.

Next time you're there, at least distract yourself for long enough to scout for some of the weird Japanese Kit-Kat flavours. I have been intrigued by reports of those for a while.

  • Hi, yada yada yada,

  • I know it's been years since this was posted, but they sell these plastic soup spoons with bowl hooks at Daiso, I recently bought a pack of 4-5, would prefer them to be ceramic though
